Is it safe to say that Daredevil: Born Again is the most anticipated show of the year? Well, it's definitely one of them, that's for sure - right up there with The Last of Us season 2 and the final season of Stranger Things. And for good reason too.

The upcoming Disney Plus show isn't just the next chapter in the ever-growing Marvel Cinematic Universe; it's a revival / sequel series to the Netflix Daredevil series that premiered on that streaming platform a decade ago. That show ran for three seasons, receiving rave reviews and strong viewership before its frustrating cancellation (that had nothing to do with its performance). For years, fans championed a revival and now they have it.

After both Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock and Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk joined the MCU, it was only a matter of time until they crossed paths on-screen. Now, it's upon us, and fans of the original series will be thrilled by what Marvel has just confirmed.

Matt Murdock will suit up in the first episode of Daredevil: Born Again

You won't have to wait too long to see Charlie Cox's vigilante in action as Marvel has just quietly confirmed that Matt Murdock will be suiting up as Daredevil in the very first episode of Daredevil: Born Again. How do we know this? Well, Marvel just released three stills from the premiere episode of the Disney Plus series (each image is labelled as being from "episode 101" on the press site) and you can see Daredevil himself getting it on with an unknown assailant.

This is important for multiple reasons. First, the trailer for Daredevil: Born Again confirmed that Matt Murdock had retired as a vigilante after "a line had been crossed", meaning that it was going to take some convincing to get him to don the suit once again. We know that he will put that helmet on again at some point throughout the season, we always knew that (and not just because the trailer also confirmed that), but drama like that usually takes time to marinate, building up to the hero's eventual decision to come out of retirement. Daredevil: Born Again, however, doesn't need to take its time, it seems, and that's a great thing - especially after what we now know about the original incarnation of the series.

Daredevil: Born Again originally looked very, very different. The initial plan for the series was for it to be an adjacent spinoff to the original Daredevil series in that Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio would reprise their roles as Murdock and Fisk but playing versions that were different from the ones we met in the Netflix series. The project began filming before it was scrapped entirely and redeveloped as a sequel to the previous series, giving the fans what they wanted by bringing back all of the familiar characters from it, too.

One of the many rumors about that scrapped footage was that, four episodes in Matt Murdock had not yet donned the Daredevil suit. Now, there is no doubt about it that Daredevil can do drama, and some of the dramatic scenes in the original series were among the best you will ever see on television, but there is no denying that this would have been quite troubling. Daredevil is known for its action as much as it is its incredible conversations, so to limit one would have been a disappointment.

Whether or not that rumor was true, there was the fear that the Disney Plus series would misunderstand what made the Netflix show so great. So far, it looks like that won't be the case after all. Now that we know Matt will be donning the new and improved red suit in the first episode, we can't wait to see the awe-inspiring feats and visuals that await us in Daredevil: Born Again.

Daredevil: Born Again premieres on Disney Plus on March 4, 2025.
