Disney Plus' Loki is considered among the very best of the Marvel Television shows. Most consider it among the Top 3 series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (along with WandaVision and Agatha All Along) and for good reason. Tom Hiddleston's God of Mischief has long been one of the franchise's most beloved characters, capable of bringing any film to life the moment that he strutted onto screen and commanded those before him.
If he could do that in a supporting role, imagine what he would be capable of in a main role; that was the thought process leading up to Loki season 1, and we very quickly got the answers we were hoping for.
The show is one of the MCU's most complex titles and that works for it, with season 2 in particular being a triumph. It was gripping, thrilling, and undoubtedly one of the very best shows of 2023.
Fans have been hoping for more Loki after the pretty definitive season 2 conclusion and now Marvel Television's Brad Winderbaum has the most promising update for them yet.
Marvel's Brad Winderbaum gives hopeful Loki season 3 update
Brad Winderbaum, Head of Streaming, Television and Animation at Marvel Studios, has discussed the chances of Loki season 3 happening. During an interview with CinePOP, he was asked about whether there would be any chance of a third season of the beloved Disney Plus show and, with a smile, he responded: "There's always a chance".
This is the glimmer of hope that Marvel fans have been waiting for because, ever since the show's second season came to an end last November, the studio has remained pretty tight-lipped about whether it would return for another season. Loki is one of Marvel's most popular properties, so the demand for season 3 has been high, but from a story perspective, it definitely seemed like the season 2 finale could have been the final episode.
The God of Mischief realized that the only way to stop the Temporal Loom from wiping out all of the timelines was to allow it to self-destruct. He then uses his immense power to enchant the dying timelines and sits at the center of what is shaped like a giant tree. The Trickster has become the God of Stories, inadvertently getting the throne he had longed for his whole life; but this isn't a selfish one, it's a selfless one. The former villain sacrifices his chance to live a full life in favor of allowing his friends to do that instead.
With Loki at the center of the multiverse, so to speak, it's highly likely that we haven't seen the last of the character. This is, after all, the story of the Multiverse Saga that Marvel Studios is currently telling. And with that, fans are expecting him to be involved in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars as those movies will close out the multiversal story for the franchise.
With that in mind, there is a possibility that a potential third season of Loki could take place after the Multiverse Saga concludes. This isn't a normal TV series in which seasons have to be produced regularly; it's part of an ongoing movie and TV franchise and thus, its seasons need to fit into that overall timeline and make sense from a continuity point-of-view. So, if there is a reason to bring Loki back for a third outing in the future, it could very well happen.
The sacrifice that Loki made in the second season finale is the culmination of his arc for now. But there are story beats left to be told, including how he factors into the end of the Multiverse Saga and that long-awaited reunion with his brother Thor. That has to happen at some point, and that means we will see Loki again. Here's hoping that this eventual return could very well lead to a third season of the Disney Plus series.
