The Multiverse Saga has presented Marvel Studios fans with so many wonderful ideas, concepts, and additions to the ever-expansive Marvel Cinematic Universe. But without question, the greatest new addition from the saga has been the Disney Plus shows.
A new way to expand the world of the MCU on television, the multi-episode format of the various series have allowed the creative team to explore beloved characters in greater depth and give us the opportunity to really get to know them. The same goes for new characters such as Ms. Marvel and Moon Knight, who benefitted from their episodic series when bursting onto the MCU scene.
We know that the studio will continue to produce shows under its Marvel Television banner, with the likes of Wonder Man and Ironheart coming next year, but after that, the slate remains something of a mystery. There are some projects that are rumored to be a part of Phase 7 and beyond, and now one report suggests one of them may come to fruition.
Strange Academy series in development, according to insider
According to industry veteran insider Daniel Richtman, the long-rumored Strange Academy series is officially in development at Marvel Studios. Of course, Marvel have not yet announced this officially, but this is a promising sign for a series that has become such a regular of the rumor mill (and a favorite of fans), suggesting that the rumors may indeed be true.
Strange Academy would likely be based on the comics of the same name, in which Doctor Strange puts together an army of young warriors-in-training and teaches them how to be the best magic-wielders they can be. The only difference in the MCU is that it would actually be overseen by Wong instead. At least that's what the reports say.
Benedict Wong portrays the character, who has been a fixture of the MCU since his first appearance in 2016's Doctor Strange. He has since returned in 2018's Avengers: Infinity War, 2019's Avengers: Endgame, 2021's Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings and Spider-Man: No Way Home, and 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and She-Hulk: Attorney At Law. Fans have noticed that he's been particularly active in the Multiverse Saga, with speculation that he might play a pivotal role in the franchise going forward.
A new report seems to support this, as Wong is rumored to be among those who put together the new team of Avengers (along with Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel and Bruce Banner, a.k.a. the Hulk). This would carry on from the post-credits scene of Shang-Chi in which Wong recruited Shang-Chi and Katy for their help in analyzing the Ten Rings (with Danvers and Banner also present). With that, he may already be serving as a mentor figure to Shang-Chi and Katy, much like he has been helping train America Chavez in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and how he helped Strange himself become the mighty Master of the Mystic Arts that he is today.
With all of that in mind, it's easy to see why Wong would be a great leader for the Strange Academy. Though nobody has officially confirmed whether he will be involved in the project (if the series is even happening), there have been rumors running parallel to those ones claiming that Wong is set to star in his own show for Disney Plus. It would make sense if both of those projects were one and the same.
It goes without saying that a Strange Academy project is one that fans have been waiting to see for quite some time now, and if it was led by Wong, that would just be the icing on the cake.
