As we all know, the Marvel Cinematic Universe loves to save the best for last, just when everything appears to be said and done. Thanks to its post-credits scenes, we've seen the introduction of shocking heroes such as Nick Fury or discovered that big antagonists like Thanos were coming for the Infinity Stones. Unfortunately, there's also been a bit of a tendency to set up future storylines during these scenes only to seemingly abandon them altogether.
Remember how Mac Gargan was teased to turn into the Scorpion after the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: Homecoming? Yeah, it's been so long that we almost didn't either. Such has been the case on many occasions throughout multiple projects, including the likes of Eternals and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Fortunately, it seems Marvel will finally follow up on a loose end that has the potential to forever change the MCU as we know it.
Back in 2022, audiences were first introduced to Charlize Theron's Clea in the post-credits scene of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It was later revealed that she would embark on a journey alongside the soon-to-be Sorcerer Supreme to stop the multiverse from collapsing by fixing an upcoming incursion. However, almost three years have gone by since that day and Clea's whereabouts remain a mystery. Thankfully, it seems our days of waiting are finally coming to an end.
Clea will reportedly appear in Avengers: Doomsday
According to insider account Marvel Updates, Clea will appear in Avengers: Doomsday — a movie that will heavily deal with the multiverse and the repercussions of incursions. It's worth remembering that Doctor Strange actor, Benedict Cumberbatch, recently confirmed he'll be back in Marvel's upcoming crossover too (even if he mistakenly said at some point that he wouldn't). And since we last saw Stephen with Clea, it doesn't come as a shock that she'll have a role to play as well.
Given that Clea knows about impending dangers to the multiverse, chances are that she's aware of Doom and his master plan to unite all branching realities into a single-place named Battleworld (just as it happened in comic book pages back in 2015). Loki and her might be the only two big MCU characters who know what is coming and are prepared to fight against it. Not even Captain America himself was aware that the multiverse was breaking loose as evidenced by the post-credits scene of Captain America: Brave New World. With that in mind, Clea might be an integral piece of the puzzle moving forward. But what is she exactly trying to prevent?
According to renowned scooper Alex Perez, via The Cosmic Circus, the incursion seen in the third act of Spider-Man: No Way Home will be the same one that Clea and Strange will attempt to fix. With that in mind, we can't help but wonder if maybe the two sorcerers will travel to either Tobey Maguire's or Andrew Garfield's universes given that characters from both of their respective worlds bled it into the MCU. This would be the perfect way to bring "Peter 2 and Peter 3" back into the mix in the most anticipated Marvel crossover to date (because let's face it: Who wouldn't want to see that?).
Very few people have the ability to freely travel through the multiverse at will in the MCU. Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch herself, chased America Chavez through many different worlds because of the child's ability to seamlessly jump between all worlds. Given that Clea is another character who has that same power (as evidenced by her debut sequence), then she'll be instrumental when it comes to exploring parallel realities. So who knows? Maybe even Doctor Doom himself will be after her, either to claim her powers or to end her once and for all in order to prevent another incursion from happening. On the bright side, it seems like it won't be long before we finally figure out what the future has in store for Clea and how is she planning to stop an apocalyptic-level event.
Avengers: Doomsday will be released on May 1, 2026.
