The mutants aren't just coming; they are already here. Slowly but surely, we've seen more of them appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe throughout the years. It all started when it was revealed that Ms. Marvel has mutant genes, and not too long after, Wonder Man and Namor were introduced. However, the door was blown wide open with the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, where Sadie Sink's Jean Grey took the spotlight and showed how powerful she truly is. Fortunately, this new era is just getting started.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to feature variants of the X-Men from the 20th Century Fox universe. Legendary characters like Ian McKellen's Magneto, Patrick Stewart's Professor X, James Marsden's Cyclops, and more will return for one last stand against Doctor Doom. But after the dust settles, a new generation of actors will step into these roles.
Rumor has it that Avengers: Secret Wars will be the first MCU movie to showcase the new X-Men in action, including Sadie Sink's Jean Grey. Furthermore, a new report hints at the role she could play in the highly anticipated crossover.
Jean Grey will reportedly help restore everyone's memory after the creation of Battleworld
Insider James Mack confirmed that Jean Grey will help bring "everyone's memories back" in Avengers: Secret Wars. Furthermore, when these MCU heroes remember their past lives, they will want to retaliate against Doctor Doom.
There's a lot to break down to explain this rumor, so let's go back to the beginning of it all. We know incursions are cataclysmic events in which two or more universes collide, and all of them could be destroyed in the process. Not only have we seen the apocalyptic outcome of these events in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but we also know the MCU is on a collision course with parallel worlds due to the events of films like Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Marvels.
The whole multiverse is in danger of collapsing, including the Earth on which the Fantastic Four live. Time is running out, and this is where Doctor Doom will reportedly step in. What if there were just one single universe, created by different bits and pieces of every reality in existence? That would eliminate the risk of multiple worlds fighting for the same space.
The Disney+ show Loki explains that the multiverse is like a huge forest in which every tree represents a different reality. With that in mind, Doom's plan would be to cut down every single tree and create one solitary plant from the branches of its fallen neighbors. This would be the equivalent of Battleworld.
In the source material, Battleworld is an amalgamation of every universe in existence, where Doctor Doom rules supreme. For a long time now, it has been speculated that Avengers: Doomsday will end with the creation of this new twisted place. Moreover, reliable industry scooper Alex Perez revealed that nearly everyone will be under Doctor Doom's mind control in Avengers: Secret Wars, with just a few heroes retaining free will. As such, it's likely that no one else will remember their lives prior to the creation of Battleworld.
Incidentally, it has also been rumored that the Young Avengers will be able to escape to the Quantum Realm before Battleworld comes into existence, explaining why they would be free of Doom's control. Furthermore, beloved characters like Tom Holland's Spider-Man, Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool, and, of course, Sadie Sink's Jean Grey will also be part of this resistance group.
Jean could very well use her telepathic powers to restore the memories of the rest of the MCU heroes (and potentially remind the world that Peter Parker exists along the way). This would set up an explosive final battle between Doom and everyone who used to be under his control.
While it's always important to take every rumor with a grain of salt, it's clear Marvel had a reason for introducing a new iteration of Jean Grey just before the events of Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars. Fortunately, we'll find out what it is soon enough.
