Marvel legacy hero teases unexpected comeback in Avengers movies

Avengers: Doomsday could feature a future star of the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to some subtle hints from the star herself.

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be hearing a lot about characters potentially appearing in Avengers: Doomsday until the film is released. Even after the movie debuts in 2026, there will be surprise cameos and more (don't spoil them on social media). While the release of the movie's cast was exciting, we still don’t know the full roster of heroes and villains that will show up. They may say this is the full cast, but we all know better.

Besides the obvious missing names like Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) and Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), there hasn’t been any mention of many of the heroes we met via the Disney Plus shows like Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and Tatiana Maslany’s Jennifer Walters. But there is still plenty of speculation that some of them might appear. After all, Wyatt Russell's US Agent joined the MCU via series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier before his major role in Thunderbolts*, so there is a place for the TV heroes on the big screen.

Now, it seems that there's a chance we could see one of the Multiverse Saga's biggest legacy heroes join the fray in the movies too.

Ironheart star Dominique Thorne teases potential involvement in Avengers movies

It sounds like we could see Riri Williams appear in either Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars. During an interview with The Direct, Ironheart star Dominique Thorne was asked about the odds of her being in Avengers: Doomsday. Instead of giving a direct answer to the publication (pun intended), Thorne gave an answer that’s promising and mysterious. She said:

"Oh, you know, what can I say? The odds might be in our favor. Who knows? We'll see. We'll see."

It's not exactly a yes, but it's a promising response with enough clues that something could be cooking. Maybe more will be revealed in Ironheart.

With Thorne's Riri Williams getting the blessing of Robert Downey Jr. in real life, there’s no way she shouldn’t appear. She will, after all, be carrying on the legacy of Tony Stark in the MCU - and the Multiverse Saga has been all about legacy heroes.

Characters like Riri Williams, Kate Bishop (played by Hailee Steinfeld), Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), and Wiccan (Joe Locke) have all been big introductions of the franchise's current saga, and they are supposed to be the future of the MCU, becoming next protectors of Earth as the Young Avengers, following in the footsteps of many of the franchise's longest-standing heroes. And with these next two Avengers movies being a universe-changing event, it would be smart to bring in the young guns. It's the only way to see if they can carry the torch that RDJ lit in Iron Man. However, the road to that happening continues with Ironheart.

Ironheart is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on June 24, 2025. The show hasn’t gotten a lot of press, and that’s okay. For projects like this, it works better when you’re underrated. This way, people will watch it and go “Wow! This is great, and I need to tell people about it.” It will be just like what happened to The Marvels when it popped up on Disney+.

The trailer looks amazing, the cast is phenomenal, and it will be something different for the world to consume. I fully believe that Marvel Studios saw Dominique Thorne's performance and knew they had to have Riri Williams in Avengers: Doomsday. Remember you heard it here first.
