Audiences worldwide are gearing up to watch Avengers: Doomsday—the most ambitious Marvel Cinematic Universe movie made to date. Expectations are at an all-time high as Earth's Mightiest Heroes will cross paths with the Fantastic Four, the Thunderbolts, and the X-Men for the first time in cinematic history. But while all eyes are set on the upcoming superhero crossover, the studio is already planning the stories that lie beyond the Multiverse Saga.
An X-Men movie from Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier is confirmed to be coming our way. Furthermore, director Destin Daniel Cretton—who will soon release the highly anticipated Spider-Man: Brand New Day—has revealed that a sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is also in the works. Additionally, reports indicate that follow-ups to The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will eventually see the light of day, although these projects remain unconfirmed.
So far, Marvel has done a fantastic job of remaining tight-lipped about any upcoming surprises set to be released after Avengers: Secret Wars. However, the cat had to come out of the bag eventually, and that day is finally here.
Ryan Reynolds confirms that Deadpool 4 is in the works
It's time for Marvel to give its maximum effort yet again. Ryan Reynolds unveiled that a new Deadpool movie is in the works during a panel at Fanatics Fest 2026. Furthermore, Deadline revealed that the film is still in early development and no writers or directors are attached to the project just yet. This means a story may not have been fully decided just yet, but Reynolds did suggest we're about to see some pretty "deep cuts" in Deadpool 4:
"There's a few really deep cuts that I think are missing behind the movies. I think there's a few deep cuts missing from some of the comics. There's certainly some stuff that, you know, I love that Fabian Nicieza [Deadpool co-creator] wrote that is incredible. Gerry Duggan, who was a friend, was an incredible comic writer. There's stuff upcoming. There's eventually, you know, remotely another Deadpool film. It's going to be great."
This isn't the first time we've heard of another film starring the Merc with a Mouth. Reliable insider Daniel Richtman previously revealed that Deadpool 4 will be a team-up movie, following the franchise's pattern of pairing up its titular protagonist with other iconic mutants such as Wolverine, Cable, Domino, or Colossus. Reynolds himself has hinted this will be the case, as he has referred to Wade Wilson as a "supporting character" and "a guy who is great in a group".

It's still too early to tell who will cross paths with the Merc with a Mouth, but a popular choice online is the wall-crawler himself, Spider-Man. Tom Holland himself has expressed interest in exploring an R-rated version of Peter Parker in a Punisher project, so what's stopping the friendly neighborhood hero from doing the same in Deadpool 4? After all, both red-suited heroes are a very iconic duo on comic-book pages.
So far, the MCU's Multiverse Saga has been a pretty mixed bag with some mind-blowing successes and some underwhelming flops. However, one of the highlights of the MCU's ongoing chapter has been Deadpool & Wolverine, which went on to gross $1.3 billion at the box office. Marvel knows Wade Wilson has become a household name and that his films are all but confirmed to become commercial successes, despite their R-rating. As a result, it isn't surprising to learn that we'll see more of the hero in the future.
The timing couldn't be any better either, as we're about to head into a new MCU saga that's rumored to shine the spotlight on the mutants. This storyline will begin as early as Avengers: Doomsday, where the X-Men will finally join forces with Earth's Mightiest Heroes. While it has not been officially confirmed just yet, multiple reports suggest that Deadpool will be one of the characters to be part of the upcoming MCU crossover. Furthermore, it has also been rumored that he will be one of the main characters in Avengers: Secret Wars.
It may take some time before we see Deadpool 4, but the film is coming our way sooner or later. The only question remaining is: Who will be brave enough to share the spotlight with Wade Wilson?
