The multiverse is in danger and Earth's Mightiest Heroes are coming out of retirement to save it. However, there is just one problem with all of that: Doctor Doom is waiting for them. Yes, the new big bad of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will seek to capitalize on the incursions happening around him, potentially even remaking the multiverse in his own image. It's a treacherous plot but one that Marvel Comics fans know that Victor von Doom is all too capable of. And Avengers: Doomsday is where it will all go down in the MCU.
Act 1 of the Multiverse Saga's conclusion is sure to feature a multitude of shocking moments as it sets the stage for 2027's Avengers: Secret Wars. If it's anything like the franchise's previous "Part 1" (2018's Avengers: Infinity War) then it will likely come with some surprise deaths. And with all of that in mind, here are the five characters most likely to perish at the hands of Doctor Doom and the multiverse's destruction.

Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man
Although Tobey Maguire has not been officially confirmed to be a part of the Avengers: Doomsday cast by Marvel Studios, subsequent reports have suggested that his Spider-Man will be a part of the film. The question is how big that role will be and what it might entail. Unfortunately, it's not looking good for the original Spidey.
Maguire has appeared in various leaks and set photos over the course of the past year, but the validity of those images were often disputed. Recent reports, however, have seemingly confirmed that the veteran webslinger will appear in the film's opening act as he has to defend his own world against the entire X-Men. Yes, the cast of characters from the Fox X-Men movie series - who are confirmed, regular cast members of Avengers: Doomsday.
Considering that only one universe might survive this showdown, it's not looking good for Peter Parker. The silver lining here is that the events of Avengers: Secret Wars might undo the damage.

Bucky Barnes
It's another character adored by the Marvel fans who will reportedly meet his end in Avengers: Doomsday. According to reports, the upcoming MCU film will feature at least one game-changing death that will leave fans heartbroken - just as Avengers: Infinity War featured the deaths of Loki, Vision, and Gamora. And it seems that the character most are expecting to perish is indeed Bucky Barnes.
The Winter Soldier is one of the longest-standing characters in the MCU, having been a part of the franchise since 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger. With his best friend Steve Rogers returning to once again align himself with the Avengers in battle (and Bucky now being a part of the New Avengers), it's entirely possible that he will play a major role in the film. And considering his longevity, personal connection to Steve's storyline, and Sebastian Stan's role in The Batman - Part II (which is filming at the same time as Avengers: Secret Wars), fans are worried about Bucky in Avengers: Doomsday.
Like we said above with Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man, hopefully any death in the Multiverse Saga's conclusion can be reversible. But if it does go down like Loki, Vision, or Gamora (or Avengers: Endgame's Natasha Romanoff) that might not be the case.

Loki
I know what you're thinking: "Not again?!". And you would be right in thinking that; the God of Mischief has died multiple times throughout his stint in the MCU, with Avengers: Infinity War definitively bringing an end to that version of the character (when Thanos killed him in front of Thor). But this new, equally-redeemed iteration of Loki has a massive target on his back - and that makes him an inevitable challenger for Doctor Doom, who the villain will likely seek to eradicate.
The season 2 finale of Disney Plus' Loki saw the former villain take his seat at the end of time as new God of Stories, using his magic to enchant the timelines that very nearly broke down - keeping the multiverse alive. It's a lonely throne for the man who once wanted to be king, but that is a sign of the lessons he learned from both his doppelganger and his time spent at the Time Variance Authority.
However, being in charge of protecting all of the timelines and universes puts him in the crosshairs of Doctor Doom, who will likely seek to capitalize on their destruction. Could that lead to a showdown between the pair for the fate of the multiverse? It's not just possible, it's highly likely.
Loki and Thor's inevitable reunion in Avengers: Doomsday is undoubtedly going to be one of the movie's most emotional moments. The question is: Will it set the stage for one of the Asgardian duo to perish before the credits roll? We certainly hope not, but as it has not yet been confirmed that Tom Hiddleston is reprising his role as Loki in Avengers: Secret Wars, we'll sit with baited breath in the hopes that our favorite Trckster avoids Doom's wrath.
