Marvel fans and zombie fans have something to bite into close to Halloween season. And it turns out that it will be a bit sooner than anticipated, too!

Marvel Zombies, the upcoming miniseries on Disney Plus was expected to arrive this October, but in an exclusive with Collider, Director Bryan Andrews revealed that it will now premiere on September 24 - one week earlier than its initially-planned October 3 release date. He also shared some more information on the animated and gory series.

Marvel Zombies will be a 4-episode TV-MA story, one that Andrews states will viscerally flow episodically among the brain-chomping carnage. This allows for character arcs and depth, a contrast to Kirkman and Sean Phillips's desire to push the envelope in the original comic run.

Andrews also reveals that it was initially conceived as a possible film, Marvel Zombies will reportedly have a cinematic feel. While not gratuitous with the gore, the show will give fans what they'd expect of a blood-soaked zombie-action thriller.

Originally penned by Robert Kirkman from 2005-2007, the Marvel Zombies comic book series took Marvel's superheroes and twisted them into undead legions of monsters. Known for how far Kirkman pushed things to test Marvel, the series became a cult classic amid the rising popularity of dark superhero stories of the 2000s.

Following the release of What If...?''s first season, Marvel Studios announced a sequel series to the episode, "What If...Zombies?!". This episode saw Janet Van Dyne and Hank Pym accidentally spread a virus from the Quantum Realm, which quickly spread to the heroes and villains of this tragic Marvel Universe. A group of survivors then contends with the chaotic aftermath.

Marvel Zombies continues that story, with Spider-Man (voiced by Hudson Thames), returning as a survivor.

Joining Spidey are the following:

  • Katy (Awkwafina) - Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
  • Xu Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) - Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
  • Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian (David Harbour) - Thunderbolts*, Black Widow
  • Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) - WandaVision, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness
  • Jimmy Woo (Randall Park) - Ant-Man, Ant-Man and the Wasp, WandaVision
  • Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) - Thunderbolts*, Black Widow
  • Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) - Hawkeye
  • Riri Williams/Ironheart (Dominique Thorne) - Black Pather 2: Wakanda Forever, Ironheart
  • Kamala Khan/Ms.Marvel (Iman Vellani) - Ms. Marvel, The Marvels

Joining this stacked roster are the as-of-yet uncast Death Dealer and Xu Wenwu of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. More excitingly, there is Blade Knight, a variant of Moon Knight that sees Eric Brooks/Blade serve as an avatar for Khonshu.

A previous report from Nexus Point News also gave us an idea of the plot, revealing that Wanda Maximoff / the Scarlet Witch, known as the Dead Queen in this adaptation, will lead an army of undead monsters alongside Okoye.

Marvel Zombies will stream on Disney+ on September 24. Your favorite MCU heroes and villains are just chomping at the bit for you to watch.
