For over a decade, fans had wanted to see the X-Men cross paths with Earth's Mightiest Heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unfortunately, two different studios held the rights to these iconic heroes. The Avengers were under the Disney umbrella, while mutants appeared in 20th Century Fox projects. As a result, we spent years watching these two groups live separate adventures without ever interacting with each other. But at long last, the wait is coming to an end.
Variants of the X-Men from the 20th Century Fox movies will appear in Avengers: Doomsday, setting in motion one of the most ambitious superhero crossovers in cinema. Better yet, mutants will have a pivotal role in the franchise even after Doctor Doom attempts to reign supreme over the MCU. After all, an X-Men movie from Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier is slated to be released in 2028. This project will introduce new, younger versions of the iconic team, who will likely stick around for years to come. But while we already know who will portray characters like Rogue, Professor X, and Gambit, there's one important casting that still eludes us.
Wolverine became the face of the X-Men during the 2000s on the big screen, even when Gambit was the leader of the team. And while it seems Marvel wants to switch things moving forward and finally give Scott Summers a chance to shine, it would be shocking if a new version of Logan never joined the MCU. As such, fans were eager to learn who'd portray the new James Howlett, and we could finally have an answer.

Jeremy Allen White is Marvel's top pick to play Wolverine in the MCU, according to a new report
According to insider That REDACTED Guy, The Bear's Jeremy Allen White is Marvel's current choice for portraying Wolverine in the MCU. This possible casting has sparked a lot of conversation online, with some fans being on board with the idea while others have reservations, as they pictured someone else in the role. Still, it appears a deal hasn't been made official yet, as the two parties are still in talks.
Interestingly, it has also been reported that this new iteration of Logan won't make his debut in Jake Schreier's X-Men. Instead, he will appear in Alpha Flight, an upcoming film that is rumored to be in development at Marvel, alongside an X-Force adaptation.
Moreover, scooper MyTimeToShineHello has also stated that the new version of Logan will have his own solo movie, and an A-list director is attached to the project. So even if Wolverine isn't a big part of the X-Men moving forward, he'll still have an important role in the MCU as a whole (which isn't surprising, given the hero's popularity).
But despite the fact that the debut of a new iteration of Logan could still be a long way off, it seems the character will still be part of the closing chapters of the ongoing Multiverse Saga. Multiple rumors suggest that Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool, and Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man will all appear in the opening sequence of Avengers: Doomsday. Furthermore, it has also been reported that Hugh Jackman's Wolverine will be one of the leading characters in Avengers: Secret Wars.
It appears Marvel could be gearing up to bid farewell to Hugh Jackman's version of Logan during the upcoming Avengers crossovers. From that point onwards, we could see someone else take on the role, and it wouldn't be surprising to learn that Jeremy Allen White will be the actor in charge of doing so. As with all unconfirmed rumors, plans could change. But with a bit of luck, it won't be long before Marvel makes some official casting announcements.
Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Dec. 18, 2026.
