Marvel Studios is getting the band back together for Avengers: Doomsday. While that is no doubt a cause for celebration, the Marvel Cinematic Universe event could very much take inspiration from the "first part" of its previous Avengers double act (Infinity War) as the movie is now confirmed to feature a cliffhanger - one that fans are predicting will be a heartbreaking cliffhanger.

With Doctor Doom running amok all over the Multiverse Saga in that story's two-part conclusion, the stakes are going to be incredibly high and that could very well mean that certain important MCU characters will die. Of course, it's all speculation right now but we do have those two previous Avengers movies to go on, and if the Multiverse Saga's finale is to be bigger than the Infinity Saga's, there could be some unexpected shocks.

A new claim from a well-respected source within the Marvel community suggests that an important character will meet their end at the hands - or claws - of a familiar face.

Wolverine to reportedly kill a major character in Avengers

Marvel veteran Chris Claremont - known primarily for his iconic run as a writer on the X-Men comics - has seemingly dropped some unexpectedly major reveals about the MCU's upcoming installments. The legend appeared at Huntsville Pop Culture Expo 2025 and gave fans something of an unexpected Avengers: Doomsday tease as he revealed a number of apparent plots from the upcoming movies. Among them is the claim that Wolverine will kill an important character.

Speaking to the audience, he said:

"...there’s a rumor that Wolverine’s going to kill somebody important... which would just... I’m sitting here thinking: Why are you going to do this and make us wait for three years for the first X-Men movie? Why don’t you just make this the first X-Men movie? Who cares about the Avengers? It’s only been 20 years — get it right now, you know?"

Although there were multiple reveals from Claremont's panel, this is one of the ones that really made fans raise some eyebrows. There haven't been any rumors regarding Wolverine killing off any important characters, so this is a pretty big potential reveal from the Marvel legend. Naturally, there is a lot of speculation as to who could meet their end at the hands of Wolvie if he does make an appearance in Avengers: Doomsday.

That's the other half of what makes this particular reveal so shocking. Hugh Jackman's name wasn't among the confirmed cast for Avengers: Doomsday, meaning that - for the moment - he isn't expected to appear in the film (officially, at least). Of course, he has been rumored to have some kind of involvement - if not in Doomsday then definitely in Avengers: Secret Wars - and Marvel has confirmed that more announcements and reveals will come in the future. Could Jackman's name be among them?

Could Wolverine be the person who takes down Doctor Doom? Will he have a hand in dealing with the MCU's Kang the Conqueror problem? Or could he finally battle the Hulk on-screen (we know that has been rumored for some time!). We'll have to wait and see, but in the meantime, the thought of seeing Wolverine take part in an Avengers movie is very exciting indeed - especially when the first of the two will feature major returning X-Men cast members.

The question is: Which character could Logan end up taking out ahead of the Multiverse Saga's conclusion?
