Venom is one of the few Spider-Man supervillains that has gained enough popularity to branch into its own stand-alone comic book series, secure a solo movie franchise, and possibly get a spin-off video game (if rumors are to be believed). Throughout the years, we've seen the Lethal Protector face a literal god, become a literal god, side with Spider-Man, and even act as a parent. Yet, no matter how much Eddie Brock evolves, one constant remains: his father will always be a bigger monster than he is.
Carl Brock resented his son, Eddie, from the moment he was born. After all, Carl's wife passed away while giving birth. Since that very moment, Carl did everything in his power to become one of the most unlikeable Marvel characters ever (and was successful for the most part). He was an abusive father who kept Eddie apart from his own son, Dylan, for many years. However, you may notice that we're talking in the past tense whenever we're referring to Carl, and that's because his time finally came to an end.

Torment kills Eddie Brock's father, Carl, in Venom No. 255
In a shocking turn of events, Carnage isn't the most lethal serial killer in the Marvel Universe anymore. After all, Eddie Brock bonded with the Carnage symbiote out of necessity and has been trying to keep the parasitic alien from eating anyone who crosses its path. Instead, there's a new dangerous player in town in the form of Torment—a mysterious supervillain who has been leaving hundreds of lifeless bodies in their path.
During the events of Venom (2025) No. 255, Eddie Brock discovered Torment's modus operandi. It turns out that the ruthless villain picks a victim and then hunts their entire family, starting from the most distant relative, and works his way in. Unfortunately, Torment has three different victims in sight: Eddie Brock, Peter Parker, and Mary Jane Watson. That means that no one in the lives of these iconic characters is truly safe.
Torment had already proven how cold-blooded he can be by killing the iconic Spider-Man villain Shocker. However, the senseless murders didn't end there. One by one, members of the Brock family started to fall. When Eddie finally caught up with what was going on, it was already too late.
Eddie Brock's Carnage rushed through the city, trying to reach his dad and get him somewhere safe. But despite his best efforts, Eddie arrived to witness a horrifying scene. Torment was sitting in Carl Brock's chair, wearing Shocker's gloves, and proudly showcasing a lifeless body behind him. Eddie couldn't save his father, and the Marvel character that fans loved to hate for years is now gone.
Given that Peter Parker is also one of Torment's victims, chances are that Aunt May will be involved in this senseless carnage sooner or later. The only way to prevent yet another tragedy is for Spider-Man, Mary Jane's Venom, and Eddie Brock's Carnage to unite and stop their new common enemy (who is very likely to be Cletus Kasady in disguise). Fortunately, it won't be long before we see how the ongoing Death Spiral comic book storyline unfolds.
The Amazing Spider-Man (2025) No. 24 will be released on March 18, 2026.
