Marvel is reportedly working on the video game we've all been longing for

Marvel video games usually put us in the shoes of the good guys, but that will soon change. Are you ready to wreak havoc?

There's no denying that Marvel is firing on all cylinders throughout different media. The superhero giant is getting ready for the culmination of its Ultimate Universe in comic book pages, renewed a live-action Disney+ show for a third season for the very first time, filmed its biggest movie to date in the form of Avengers: Doomsday, and will also release many exciting video games in the near future. Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, and Marvel Cosmic Invasion are just some of the titles that await players. Fortunately, it seems that list might get even longer.

The Marvel's Spider-Man franchise is one of the staples in the Marvel video game world. The universe that developer Insomniac Games crafted was so rich that it was expanded upon through a spin-off in the form of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and it will soon introduce a new hero courtesy of Marvel's Wolverine. However, the good guys won't be the only ones to steal the spotlight, as an iconic Spider-Man villain will get a spin-off all to is own, too.

A Venom game set in the Marvel's Spider-Man universe will reportedly release in 2026

As reported by MP1st, Insomniac is actively working on a Venom game, which is set to be released after Marvel's Wolverine hits shelves in 2026. The title is set to follow Eddie Brock as he becomes the Lethal Protector—a creative decision that would be faithful to comic book pages and mark a new direction in the saga, given that Harry Osborn was the symbiote's last host during the events of Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Furthermore, Carnage would act as the main antagonist, and Eddie would eventually become Anti-Venom at some point during the campaign.

An Easter Egg found within Marvel's Spider-Man for PS4 reveals that Eddie Brock already exists within Insomniac's universe and works for the Daily Bugle. Besides, we know that the symbiote threat is far from over. Peter and Miles may have destroyed the meteorite that amplified Venom's reach and allowed it to bond with countless civilians in New York. However, the meteorite's destruction didn't mean that every symbiote on Earth was eradicated. After all, that's why Peter was able to keep his Anti-Venom suit at the end of the game. This means that Carnage is still roaming around freely, and a spin-off game is the perfect game to give him the spotlight.

While the third act of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was all about Venom, there's very little backstory on the symbiote in the game. There are nods to Knull here and there, but there's enough comic book lore unexplored to make up for a new title. Furthermore, the Marvel's Spider-Man saga has exclusively taken place in New York (which does make sense), but this could be the perfect opportunity for players to explore little sections of Klyntar in some capacity, even if it is through flashbacks.

While the report didn't mention any details on the game's length, it wouldn't be too far-fetched to assume that it could be similar to that of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. After all, another report revealed that the spin-off is intended to bridge the gap between Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Marvel's Spider-Man 3. So while a full-on title with a large scope is unlikely, we couldn't ask for more than to wreak havoc as the Lethal Protector.

There's been a history of Wolverine appearing in games that also feature Venom. Let's not forget that Logan showed up both in Ultimate Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Web of Shadows to fight against the symbiote threat. So, knowing that Insomniac is also working on Marvel's Wolverine, would it be too much to ask that he also make a cameo in the Venom spin-off? Well, one can only dream.

While Insomniac Games hasn't made any official announcements regarding its future titles yet, rumor has it that a State of Play presentation will happen at the end of September. If that ends up being the case, then we might not be too far away from getting a glimpse at Marvel's Wolverine and perhaps even getting the confirmation that Marvel's Venom is coming too, even if it is a bit unlikely. Fortunately, the Game Awards isn't too far away either, and it would be the ideal place for another exciting announcement. And if everything else fails, 2026 is sure to be the year when we finally learn more.
