Marvel reportedly planning cameo that would break the internet
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is no stranger to cameos. Right back to the very first Iron Man movie in 2008 (when Nick Fury appeared to Tony Stark in a post-credits scene) has the franchise mastered the art of the cameo, with some of the world's biggest superstars - and the world's most iconic superheroes - making important appearances throughout the 34 movies thus far.
From the set-up of a future installment to the debut that audiences were waiting for, Marvel Studios knows how to do a cameo. They have been particularly fun in the franchise's ongoing Multiverse Saga, which has featured surprise appearances from legendary actors who previously appeared in various movies or TV shows based on Marvel Comics characters.
Look no further than Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which saw Patrick Stewart return as Professor Charles Xavier, John Krasinski finally play Mr. Fantastic Reed Richards, and Hayley Atwell bring Captain Carter to live-action. And then there is Deadpool and Wolverine, which featured the returns of Jennifer Garner's Elektra, Wesley Snipes' Blade, and Chris Evans' Human Torch Johnny Storm - and also made history happen by finally giving Channing Tatum the chance to play Gambit.
But, according to reports, an upcoming MCU title could make some magic of its own happen and feature a cameo from a current MCU character in a project that nobody expected them to appear in.
Marvel reportedly trying to get Spider-Man to cameo in Daredevil: Born Again
According to prolific Marvel insider Alex Perez, Marvel Studios is actively trying to get Tom Holland to make a cameo appearance in Daredevil: Born Again. Holland, of course, plays Spider-Man in the MCU and he has briefly crossed paths with Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock before, so it's not necessarily impossible to imagine the two crossing paths again on the screen (especially given that Spidey and Daredevil have history in the Marvel Comics), but it would be a huge surprise given that we weren't exactly expecting such a crossover to take place so soon.
Perez's comments came during a Q&A with fans (via The Cosmic Circus), as the scooper revealed that it would be a short cameo designed to set up the connection to a potential Devil's Reign adaptation, in which Mayor Wilson Fisk and his Punishers would be hunting down vigilantes. However, Perez adds that they don't know if it will pan out that Holland's webslinger is physically seen or not.
Charlie Cox has portrayed Daredevil since the 2015 Netflix series, which ran for three seasons prior to its premature cancellation. Although that wasn't considered canon to the MCU at the time, it has since retroactively been canonized into the franchise after a change in creative direction called for the upcoming Disney Plus series to be more like the Netflix show. The actor made his official MCU debut in 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home when Matt Murdock served as Peter Parker's lawyer during the case against him that came after his identity was revealed by Mysterio.
What's interesting is that that movie ended with Doctor Strange casting a spell that made everyone in the MCU (and wider multiverse) forget that Peter Parker existed in order to stop a host of multiversal threats coming through to attack him. But that also resulted in all of Peter's loved ones, allies, and friends forgetting him too.
The same would obviously apply to Daredevil, so it would be intriguing to see, if the pair were to cross paths, how would they interact? Peter obviously never knew Matt's double life as Daredevil to begin with, and Matt would have now forgotten that Peter is Spider-Man, so it would be great to see them as hero allies before they eventually learned each other's secret identities.
Wilson Fisk may be an archenemy of Daredevil, but he's also one of Spider-Man's most relentless foes. If you watched Spider-Man: The Animated Series, you probably already knew that. The two have quite the history and rumors suggest that they will eventually cross paths in the MCU, too. Setting those plans in motion with a Spidey cameo in Daredevil: Born Again would certainly go a long way in increasing excitement for future storylines and the adventures that await both heroes and the nefarious villain.
Daredevil started this new chapter of his MCU journey with a cameo in a Spider-Man movie, it would pretty ironic - and welcome - if Spider-Man began his new chapter with a cameo in a Daredevil series.
Daredevil: Born Again premieres on Disney Plus on March 4, 2025.
