Marvel reportedly recasts a major MCU hero ahead of 2026 return

MCU fans have wondered for a long time when and where we'd get to see the return of this character and, as expected, Marvel has reportedly cast a new actor in the role.

Anticipation prior to the release of an Avengers movie is always at an all-time high. On one hand, fans are excited to see big Marvel Cinematic Universe comebacks, and this time will be no different with the return of Robert Downey Jr. to the superhero world (to name just one example). On the other hand, we're all eager to witness the introduction of new characters who'll forever shape the future of this interconnected universe.

Avengers: Age of Ultron marked the proper debut of fan-favorite Wanda Maximoff, while the Captain America: Civil War crossover introduced audiences to Black Panther and the MCU's version of Spider-Man. Now, with the introduction of the multiverse, the sky isn't even the limit anymore, as anyone could show up at any moment — a notion that only became more apparent thanks to leaked MCU concept art.

An illustration presumed to be for Avengers: Doomsday revealed that the Young Avengers are coming. The team's lineup mostly consists of heroes we've seen before, such as Ms. Marvel, Kate Bishop, Wiccan, and Cassie Lang. However, one unexpected "new" player was also added to the mix in the form of Speed. Fans immediately speculated when we'd see the debut of this new iteration of Wanda's son, and it seems we finally have an answer.

Ruaridh Mollica has reportedly been cast as Speed in Vision Quest

According to renowned and reliable industry insider Daniel Richtman, Sebastian star Ruaridh Mollica has been cast as Tommy Maximoff in the Vision Quest series. This would mark Speed's first MCU appearance since audiences saw Jett Klyne portray the character in WandaVision back in 2021. Unfortunately, the Young Avenger met a terrible fate as Wanda's fantasy world, called The Hex, was undone, and her two "imaginary" kids ceased to exist.

Fortunately, during the events of Agatha: All Along, it was revealed that Tommy and Billy Maximoff didn't disappear as everyone originally suspected, but instead were reincarnated in new bodies. The show ended with Wiccan teaming up with Agatha to find his long-lost brother, Speed — a storyline that nobody knew when it would be followed up until now. Could Vision Quest act as the final chapter of the WandaVision trilogy? Considering its titular character is none other than the love of Scarlet Witch's life, it wouldn't seem too far-fetched to assume that could be the case.

While Vision Quest doesn't have an official release date yet, it's expected to arrive at some point in 2026 as part of the MCU's Phase 6. That means the series is highly likely to be released sooner than Avengers: Doomsday, which is set to premiere on Dec. 18, 2026. Audiences could see the resolution to Wiccan and Agatha's journey just in time for the two superpowered brothers to join forces (and perhaps even reunite with their mom) in Earth's Mightiest Heroes' upcoming adventure.

Given that Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be a very crowded movie, it's nice to learn that we'll see the reintroduction of Speed earlier. That way, the highly anticipated crossover can spend more time building the character of Doctor Doom in the MCU instead of tying up loose ends. But now the question becomes: How will the Vision Quest series tie into the WandaVision arc? After all, what we've learned so far about the android's upcoming project would suggest its story will head in a very different direction.

James Spader's Ultron will make a return in Vision Quest, and Jocasta Pym is expected to make an appearance as well. Furthermore, superhero scooper Alex Perez unveiled that the story of the upcoming Disney+ show will see two artificial intelligences (Vision and Ultron) address "the complexities of human life" and debate whether people deserve to be saved or not. At first glance, this tale would not seem fit for the appearance of either Tommy or Billy. However, the same source also claimed Vision will want to "dive deeper into his origins", and that's where all pieces seem to click.

White Vision now has the memories of its predecessor and will surely want to meet the family it once used to have. But now that Wanda is seemingly dead, the android will likely want to know more about its past through its two kids: Wiccan and Speed. Agatha could show up as well due to her current relationship with Billy, and before you know it, Vision Quest turns out to be the true end of the "WandaVision trilogy". Hopefully, our days of speculating are counted, and Marvel makes some official announcements soon.

Vision Quest will be released in 2026.
