There are a lot of popular characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. From the long-standing legends of the Infinity Saga to the relatively new introductions in the ongoing Multiverse Saga, the MCU has gifted us with some of the most popular movie and TV characters of all time. And it's hard to argue with anyone who makes such a claim.
One of the most beloved characters of them all, however, managed to find success in both chapters, successfully integrating herself into the hearts and inds of viewers all over the world. This complex, imperfect character is none other than Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. the Scarlet Witch. Although a major introduction midway through the Infinity Saga, she ultimately achieved her true form of the Scarlet Witch, taking center stage in multiple Multiverse Saga projects.
Elizabeth Olsen is set to reprise her role in an upcoming MCU project and Marvel Studios has unveiled a frightfully dazzling new look at the character in action.
New Marvel Zombies poster showcases the return of the Scarlet Witch as Elizabeth Olsen is back to voice the character
Marvel Studios has been going all out with the promotion for Marvel Zombies over the past few weeks. The animated series, which was initially planned for an October release, will now release on September 24 and the studio has ramped up the promo by placing the spotlight on both its violent nature and its central villain, Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. the Scarlet Witch.
Elizabeth Olsen is set to stage her long-awaited comeback to a Marvel Studios project when she voices her beloved character in the animated series, and it's clear that Marvel is aware of just how popular Wanda is for the marketing has been placing a major focus on her involvement. Having already taken center stage in two posters, Wanda is front and center in the new one as well, which Marvel has just recently unveiled. Check it out here in a tweet.
The deadly poster for the Disney Plus series, which features the Scarlet Witch in her new Queen of the Dead persona, showcases just how dark the show is going to get. The zombified Wanda hovers in the sky, spreading her signature red light across the atmosphere. Below her, the army of zombies that she accrued stands united, spears and weaponry in hand - because, yes, in this world zombies can continue to use their super powers! Perhaps the most terrifying element of all is the massive, bloody rib cage that they are standing before - the body of Giant Man, perhaps?

It's certainly a sight to behold, and a reminder that Marvel Zombies won't be for the faint of heart. The TV-MA show is going to push some bloody boundaries that the normally family-friendly franchise isn't known for pushing. Early reactions suggest that fans are in for a thrilling ride, with the hard-hitting approach receiving praise, along with the performances of Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, and Elizabeth Olsen as the Scarlet Witch.
Olsen's involvement in Marvel Zombies is her ninth collaboration with Marvel Studios, with their working relationship beginning all the way back in 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier (in which she appeared in a post-credits scene along with Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Pietro Maximoff). The two would officially debut in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron, with Olsen's Wanda going on to become one of the most prominent figures in the entire MCU - particularly when the Multiverse Saga began.
Her performance as the character in Disney Plus' WandaVision earned her critical acclaim, along with an Emmy Award nomination. It also saw Wanda officially become the Scarlet Witch, setting her up for bigger things in the franchise. That is, until Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness seemingly killed Wanda off as she attempted to atone for some of her unforgivable actions throughout that movie. That was, to date, Olsen's last time playing the live-action version of the character.

She has since provided voicework for What If...? and will now return for Marvel Zombies, playing different versions of Wanda each time. Although they aren't the official MCU iteration of the character, Olsen's continued collaborations with Marvel do suggest that she could be called upon to reprise the role in another movie down the line. In fact, rumors have been swirling over the past few months that she might actually appear in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, which are both about to bring on the end of the Multiverse Saga. And with Doctor Doom running amok over the multiverse, the heroes could use someone as powerful as Wanda to stop him.
In the meantime, knowing that Elizabeth Olsen is still bringing Wanda Maximoff to life - irrespective of which version of the character it is - is very reassuring. As always, we have no doubt that she will deliver once again!
Marvel Zombies arrives on Disney Plus on September 24, 2025.
