Marvel set to bring beloved character back from the dead, reports say

Marvel Studios could be bringing back a character that deserves another chance at being an MCU star, and you won’t believe who it is.

If there’s one thing you can count on, it's that, for most characters in the Marvel Universe, death isn’t forever. However, once upon a time, the sacred characters that couldn’t return were Bucky Barnes, Gwen Stacy, and Uncle Ben. Bucky came back as the Winter Soldier, and Gwen Stacy was resurrected earlier this year in Gwenpool by Cavan Scott. It won’t be long before Uncle Ben comes back from the dead as the most powerful character in Marvel, the Spirit of Responsibility (this is a joke, not something that’s happening).

When it comes to superhero movies and TV Shows, death is a little more permanent. You may get some returns via time-travel (like Thanos in Avengers: Endgame), but when characters die, that’s usually it. Even the great Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark isn’t coming back. That being said, it sounds like one character - one who is already known for cheating death - could be about to do the impossible... again.

Elektra reportedly returning in Daredevil: Born Again

According to a new report from reliable Marvel insider Daniel Richtman, Elektra Natchios is set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Daredevil: Born Again. The report adds that it's currently unclear whether it will be in the second season (which is set to premiere in Spring 2026) or the third. Born Again was just recently greenlit for season 3, so there are indeed plenty of opportunities to see her in the Disney Plus series.

Here's where things get interesting. The report doesn't specifically say who will be playing the character. The obvious choice is, of course, Elodie Yung, who portrayed the character in Marvel Netflix shows Daredevil and The Defenders (which are now considered canon to the MCU projects), but fans have also speculated about whether we could see Jennifer Garner reprise her role as Elektra. Garner played the character in 2003 movie Daredevil as well as her own standalone spinoff movie in 2005 and recently returned in 2024's Deadpool and Wolverine, which makes her canon to the MCU's Multiverse Saga. Garner has been rumored to return for either Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars, so a cameo appearance in Daredevil: Born Again would be unexpected to say the least.

That being said, Yung's Elektra is the much more likely candidate. Yes, the character seemingly died for the second time at the end of The Defenders, but Matt Murdock's former lover is a pro at cheating death at this point! Furthermore, Yung couldn't appear in the first season of Daredevil: Born Again as she was working on The Cleaning Lady at the time. That show's run has finished, which means she could very well be involved with an Elektra return in the near-future.

If that's the case, it’s good news, especially with Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones returning in the second season and rumors of Mike Colter’s Luke Cage and Finn Jones' Iron Fist coming back too.

Elektra potentially coming back from the dead isn’t shocking. Fans of Marvel Comics know she stays dead about as long as Jean Grey, and she isn’t powered by the Phoenix Force. Elektra normally comes back with the help of mystic ninja magic (normally via the Hand). It’s an easy guess that the same thing will happen in here. However, depending on the project, Marvel Studios tends to stay away from things too fantastical.

Yes, this is a universe with stones that can remake the universe, a Hulk is a lawyer, and gods have an annual orgy. Nevertheless, certain things could turn off fans of more serious fare like Daredevil: Born Again. And yes, she came back via magic before in Defenders. But Born Again has a more serious tone now. If this were a Shang-Chi project, it would be understandable, but not here. The creative team seems to want to keep this as grounded as possible.

For now, Elektra's potential return is just a rumor. But, as I mentioned earlier, Marvel Studios might be bringing the band back together. Jon Bernthal’s Punisher brought his guns, and Ritter’s Jessica Jones has the attitude. Maybe it’s time for Elodie Yung to pick up the sais again. Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow to see if that happens.

Daredevil: Born Again season 2 will premiere in Spring 2026.
