If Marvel Studios had known back when it launched Disney Plus shows as part of its Marvel Cinematic Universe that we'd still be wondering about the fates of each and every one of them three or four years later, they likely would have opted for a bit more clarity at some point along the line. Then again, it has ensured that each and every one of those shows have remained in the public eye, so it was good promotion for them nonetheless.

But, as the years have gone on, that lack of clarity has seemed like something of a confirmation in and of itself. While WandaVision was always designed as a miniseries (and continued through spinoffs Agatha All Along and Vision Quest) and the likes of Loki and What If...? were renewed for more seasons, the fates of the rest of the shows seemed obvious - especially after the reports that have since come out confirming that the studio would be changing its approach to television.

However, there is one show that was reportedly in limbo, meaning that it still had a fighting chance. But it sounds like that might not be the case after all.

Ms. Marvel star doesn't expect season 2 to happen anymore

Ms. Marvel star Aramis Knight recently spoke to Screen Rant at the premiere of his current movie The Karate Kid: Legends and, during that interview, acknowledged his previous role as Red Dagger in the Marvel series. When asked about whether a second season was happening, he said that he doesn't think so:

"I don't think so. It's been a long time now. I mean, I would love to. I was supposed to make appearances in other things but it didn't end up working out. Some logistical stuff and COVID stuff. And I think also creative stuff."

Ms. Marvel initially debuted on Disney Plus back in 2022. It received critical acclaim and still stands up as one of the MCU's best-received titles. It also paved the way for Iman Vellani to return to the titular role of Ms. Marvel in MCU movie The Marvels in 2023. Although that movie ended up underperforming at the box office, it was clear that Vellani was destined for greatness as her performance as Kamala Khan has remained one of the greatest aspects of the franchise's Multiverse Saga.

As Marvel Studios began to pivot its approach to TV, there were multiple reports that some of the original wave of shows had been renewed for follow-up seasons while others had been cancelled for good. Among the rumored renewals was Hawkeye (which ultimately had some truth to it as star Jeremy Renner recently revealed he had turned down an offer to return) and among the rumored cancellations was She-Hulk: Attorney At Law (which also may have had some truth to it as star Tatiana Maslany implied season 2 wouldn't happen).

However, Ms. Marvel was reportedly somewhere in the middle, with Marvel considering taking a chance on a second season. The response to the show and Iman Vellani's performance were very strong reasons to consider a renewal while the show was successful enough to bring back for another run. That said, the box office failure of The Marvels was one of the many aspects that forced Marvel to continually evolve its release strategy and content choices, so any planned future seasons of Ms. Marvel might have suffered as a result of that film's performance.

Of course, it's possible that Ms. Marvel was simply designed as a one-season show. With Kamala Khan returning in The Marvels and now set to make another comeback in the long-planned Young Avengers project, the character's future in the MCU is already certain. Maybe we'll get to see Aramis Knight return as Red Dagger in that one. Here's hoping because he was fantastic in the role!
