Marvel will reportedly make a solo movie starring a 'dead' MCU hero

No one is truly dead in the superhero world, so it doesn't come as a surprise that Marvel might develop an MCU movie shining the spotlight on a dead hero.

There's a saying in the comic book world that no character is ever truly dead... unless they are Uncle Ben or Gwen Stacy. Even then, the latter recently came back to life in a strange twist of events and adopted the Gwenpool mantle. That alone goes to show how any superhero can make a comeback at any given time, regardless of their status, and that same rule applies to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

For a moment, audiences thought they had seen the last of fan-favorites such as Phil Coulson, Vision, Gamora, and everyone who blipped during the events of Avengers: Infinity War. However, thanks to science, magic, Infinity Stones, or the multiverse, they all managed to jump into action once more. So now that we're heading into the end of the Multiverse Saga, chances are that the MCU will surprise us with even more unexpected comebacks, and there's one in particular that fans are eager to see. Fortunately, not only does it appear that such a return is a reality, but it will lead to the solo project we've all been waiting for.

Marvel is reportedly developing a Scarlet Witch solo project

After her introduction in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Wanda Maximoff quickly became one of the most powerful heroes in the entire MCU, and also one of the most tragic. She had an amazing arc that saw her turn from a villain to a hero throughout the course of a few movies, yet spent some of her final minutes on the wrong side of history once again before perishing in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, it seems the Scarlet Witch may get to have one more shot at redemption.

According to insider Daniel Richtman, Marvel is developing a solo Scarlet Witch project that will be released after the Multiverse Saga comes to an end, and the mutantkind finally takes the spotlight. The report isn't surprising considering that Wanda's return has been an open secret for quite some time now. Prior to the release of Agatha All Along, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that everybody's favorite witch would be back at some point in the MCU:

"We just had Agatha All Along on Disney+, and that series was great for us. I can only say that we are excited to find out when and how Scarlet Witch can return."

Many theories have surfaced about how Wanda could've survived being crushed under rubble. For a moment, fans were convinced that the TVA pulled her out of the Sacred Timeline just before suffering a terrible fate. Others believed that América Chávez could've secretly opened a portal to another universe, and Wanda could've traversed it to save herself. Perhaps the iconic witch now finds herself in the Fantastic Four's world, living in Latveria next to Doom (mimicking the events of the Avengers: The Children's Crusade comic book storyline).

Regardless of how the Scarlet Witch could come back, we could know when it is happening. It has been reported that both Wanda and Tom Holland's Peter Parker will miss out on the events of Avengers: Doomsday, but Marvel will compensate by giving them a major role in Avengers: Secret Wars. So 2027 seems to be the year of the witch. Perhaps Marvel could look to adapt the iconic "No more mutants" moment in the upcoming crossover, but with a twist. Wanda could say four simple words, "Let there be mutants", and it would pave the way for the Mutant Saga afterward.

Given how disconnected Wanda's character has been from the X-Men, it will be interesting to see how her character will be reimagined once she jumps back into action. Will her true father be revealed to be Magneto? Will Wanda meet a variant of Quicksilver? Could she be the reason there will be plenty more mutants in the MCU? Well, there's only one way to find out.

Avengers: Secret Wars will be released on Dec. 17, 2027.
