We all knew Spider-Man was capable of stopping a train with his bare hands, holding a splitting ferry together, and even going toe-to-toe with the Mad Titan himself. What we didn't know, however, was that he could single-handedly sink the Titanic. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has officially surpassed James Cameron's acclaimed movie at the box office and swung to unprecedented new heights in the process. The latest Marvel Cinematic Universe release keeps going strong a month after its release, and it shows no signs of slowing down.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day opened to an impressive $932 million at the worldwide box office during its opening weekend. Furthermore, it overtook Avengers: Endgame to become the highest-grossing film at the domestic box office after three days in theaters. The movie's positive critical reception, coupled with the fact that Peter Parker had been absent from the big screen as if by magic, makes it clear why audiences were eager to see the wall-crawler back in action. Fortunately, the momentum didn't stop there, and now Spider-Man: Brand New Day has made cinematic history yet again.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day officially became the third-highest-grossing movie ever
On Aug. 31, 2026—just one month and a day after its official release—Spider-Man: Brand New Day grossed $2,334,742 at the global box office. With this, the web-slinger's latest adventure has officially surpassed Avatar: The Way of Water, which ended its entire theatrical run at $2,334,484. Additionally, the acclaimed MCU project has become one of the highest-grossing films ever, behind only two other titans of the industry.
To put into perspective how impressive this record is, here are the ten biggest films released across the entire history of cinema, and where exactly Spider-Man: Brand New Day ranks among them:

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has grossed $893.7 million in US theaters alone, and it is on track to become the biggest domestic film ever. Currently, that record belongs to Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens at $936.6 million, but the wall-crawler is expected to land somewhere between $950 million and $1 billion.
Globally, one key aspect that pushed Spider-Man: Brand New Day forward is the fact that the film was released in China. After all, its predecessor, No Way Home, didn't have that same luxury due to the repeated appearance of the Statue of Liberty in its third act. Outside the US, China is the second-biggest market for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, where the movie has grossed $227.4 million. The UK comes in third place at $125.2 million, and Mexico in fourth at $88.2 million.
Currently, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is tracking to end its theatrical run somewhere between the $2.5 and $2.7 billion mark. While there could be a slight chance it ends up surpassing Avengers: Endgame, it's important to remember that Marvel's last ensemble movie will be re-released in September 2026, meaning it should be able to retain its second-place medal even if Brand New Day keeps performing beyond expectations.
Marvel knows it has an impressive box-office success on its hands, which is why Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on November 17. Usually, if a film were to be released to underwhelming commercial success, it would almost immediately be on streaming and digital platforms in an attempt to cushion the blow (which is exactly what happened to DC's Supergirl). So, the fact that we have to wait until November to see the wall-crawler on TV screens in our homes proves how much Marvel believes its latest movie will keep breaking records.
With this success, the MCU has seemingly returned to its golden days. After all, the next film slated to be released as part of the Multiverse Saga, Avengers: Doomsday, is tracking to have an even bigger box-office run than that of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The first two days of ticket pre-sales for Earth's Mightiest Heroes' upcoming adventure were 65% higher than those for the wall-crawler's solo movie. Furthermore, Doomsday is tracking to have a global opening weekend of $1.5 billion, which would be higher than that of Avengers: Endgame.
While we'll have to wait to discover whether Avengers: Doomsday will actually live up to these projections, it's clear the studio has already found plenty of success thanks to Spider-Man: Brand New Day. With a bit of luck, this will mean we won't have to wait another five years for a new Spider-Man movie yet again.
