There is a lot of buzz about Avengers: Doomsday already. It might be that we're finally in 2026 - the year in which the blockbuster Marvel Studios movie will come out in theaters - or it might be down the quartet of teaser trailers that the studio revealed over the past few weeks. Either way, fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are celebrating the impending arrival of the game-changing movie.
One of the most exciting elements about the film is the sheer scope and scale of it. We're always looking at a large-scale phenomenon when it comes to the Avengers, but this one may go even bigger than usual - with it being the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga, audiences are anticipating returns from all across the Marvel Multiverse. And Marvel has already confirmed that a multitude of stars - from the franchise's past, present, and future - will all being starring in the movie. There will undoubtedly be more surprises too.
However, don't expect to see one familiar face from the franchise in the upcoming film.
Will Poulter offers disappointing update about Adam Warlock's MCU future
It doesn't sound like we'll be seeing Adam Warlock return to the MCU anytime in the near-future. In a recent interview with Variety, actor Will Poulter responded to a question about whether or not fans can expect to see him return to the Marvel Studios franchise with a somewhat disappointing answer. With wide eyes, he simply said: "I genuinely know nothing."
Now, Poulter did acknowledge that if he did know something he couldn't say it, but he did sound genuine when he offered his answer. And with that, it likely rules out a return for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. After all, the film has already completed initial production and its coming out in December, so that wouldn't leave a lot of time to feature a character the calibre of Adam Warlock in reshoots.

Needless to say, fans hoping to see more of Adam Warlock in the MCU will understandably find this news upsetting. The character hasn't appeared on-screen since he made his MCU debut in 2023's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, where he made quite the impact opposing - and, eventually, helping - the Guardians. He eventually joined the new incarnation of the heroes, led by Rocket Raccoon, with the film implying that we would see him again in the future.
The character's involvement in the movie was somewhat divisive as there was a portion of the fanbase who felt he wasn't utilized to the best of his ability, particularly when you consider how major he is in the comics, but there is no denying that Will Poulter delivered an exceptional performance in the film and set the table well for greater involvement in the future.
With Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom set to cause havoc across the multiverse in Avengers: Doomsday, it goes without saying that Earth's Mightiest Heroes could use the help of a cosmic hero the calibre of Adam Warlock. But hey, there's always the potential of him getting involved in the heavily-anticipated, long-rumored multiversal battle in 2027 sequel Avengers: Secret Wars instead.
Avengers: Doomsday arrives in movie theaters on December 18, 2026.
