We might not know a lot about the plot of Avengers: Doomsday, but one thing we know is that the film is going to be one of Marvel Studios’ most ambitious projects ever. It’s also going to feature one of the largest casts in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, pulling together actors from the MCU timeline with actors fans thought they’d never get to see step foot in the MCU.
The cast began to officially assemble in March when Marvel released the infamous Avengers: Doomsday chair reveal video. This video was used to announce the initial list of actors confirmed to return for the fifth Avengers movie, one that was full of both expected names as well as several shocking additions including a swarm of actors from the 20th Century X-Men era.
This list included: Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson / Captain America), Vanessa Kirby (Susan Storm), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Wyatt Russell (John Walker), Tenoch Huerta Mejía (Namor), Simu Liu (Shaun / Shang-Chi), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), Letitia Wright (Shuri / Black Panther), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm / Thing), Kelsey Grammer (Dr. Hank McCoy / Beast), Lewis Pullman (Sentry), Danny Ramirez (Joaquín Torres / Falcon), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm / The Human Torch), David Harbour (Red Guardian), Winston Duke (M’Baku), Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier / Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), James Marsden (Cyclops), Channing Tatum (Gambit), Pedro Pascal (Mister Fantastic), Robert Downey Jr. (Doom).
This massive cast list is only just the beginning with additional characters still being confirmed including, most recently, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers and India Rose Hemsworth as Love. More names are expected to be added in the lead-up to the film’s official release in December 2026, and it’s expected Marvel will also be trying to keep a few returns under wraps to give fans some surprises when the movie opens.
Of course, the internet continues to discuss possible additions with countless reports circulating regarding the identities of other actors set to return as well as those who won’t be back for the film. Everyone is on the lookout for potential leaks and spoilers, but there’s only so much Marvel can control – and apparently preventing actors from wearing merch gifted to the crew is one that Marvel had not considered.

Kathryn Newton subtly confirms return as Cassie Lang in Avengers: Doomsday
While it has not yet been confirmed that Kathryn Newton will return as part of the Avengers: Doomsday cast, Newton has seemingly confirmed she’ll be returning as Cassie Lang. The confirmation comes in the form of a photo Newton shared in which she’s seen wearing the Avengers: Doomsday ballcap gifted to cast and crew of the film.

As the photo began taking off on social media, trusted Marvel sources have all but confirmed Newton will be returning for Doomsday. Among those to confirm Newton’s involvement in the film was scooper Alex Perez, who reports that not only will fans get to see Cassie back, but that the film will also mark the return of two fellow Young Avengers.
According to the report, Kathryn Newton is reprising her role as Cassie Lang alongside Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel and Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop. This would make perfect sense as Marvel is building towards a Young Avengers project, and Ms. Marvel has already begun assembling her team. It’s been expected that this team would include Cassie, so having the trio appear in Avengers: Doomsday would be a natural next step as Marvel builds towards the Young Avengers project.
It’s clear through the first promos for Avengers: Doomsday that Marvel is clearly putting a focus on the next generation of heroes given the inclusion of Steve Rogers’ child and the return of Love from Thor: Love and Thunder. It would make perfect sense for the Young Avengers to begin assembling to assist in the battle with Doom, and we imagine Cassie, Kamala, and Kate will be leading that charge.
With so many characters expected to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, we’re not expecting every character to have a big role. However, we’ll happyily accept even just a brief appearance from the Young Avengers to help build anticipation for the group to lead a future project, be it a show or movie, within the MCU.
