Agatha All Along has been one of the great TV hits this year. Disney Plus tends to release its new shows all year round but this one was extra special because it actually premiered during the Fall TV season and entertained us all in the run-up to Halloween. Marvel Television truly triumphed with this one, with showrunner Jac Schaeffer delivering a series that truly felt like a TV show (and not just a six-part movie).
The Marvel Cinematic Universe show was one of the titles responsible for driving 4.4 million new subscribers to the Disney Plus streaming service, performing extremely well on a lower budget. It also received widespread acclaim from fans and critics, with many regarding it among Marvel's three best shows yet (along with parent series WandaVision and Loki).
However, two weeks after the show's completion, fans have found a gripe to have with it. The good news is that it's the same gripe that a number of TV shows face, as there has now been confirmation that a number of scenes didn't make the final cut - scenes that fans are longing to see.
Marvel reveals sneak peek at intimate Agatha All Along deleted scenes
Marvel Studios just released the most recent episode of its Assembled series, which focuses on The Making of Agatha All Along. Though fans were hoping for it, its release caught them a bit by surprise, as it was just announced on the day-of release and premiered on the Marvel Entertainment YouTube channel (instead of Disney Plus). But still, they were ready for it, more than ready for it.
As always, the special featured new interviews with the cast and crew, along with set footage, concept art, and a ton of unused scenes that didn't make it into the final cut of the show. That included some intimate moments between the couplings on the series. There is an alternate scene of Agatha Harkness and Rio Vidal, a.k.a. Death, sharing a more passionate embrace from filming episode 8 (which didn't make it into the episode), while we see a while new scene between Billy Maximoff and his boyfriend Eddie sharing a sweet kiss that also didn't make it into the show.
From the looks of things, Billy and Eddie's intimate moment could have been an alternate take of their introduction scene in episode 6, "Familiar By Thy Side", or it could have been a deleted scene from after the pair's meeting with Ralph Bohner. The two did kiss in that episode, though, with the first scene after the three-year time-jump featuring a much more passionate, intense kiss between them - one that also served the plot, as it allowed Billy to reveal to Eddie (and us, the audience) that he could hear people's thoughts during intense moments.
Nevertheless, fans weren't happy that the more tender kiss was cut from the episode. Nor were they thrilled with the Agatha and Rio moment not making it into episode 8, "Follow Me My Friend / To Glory At The End", either.
The Agathario fanbase felt that the show could have used more moments between the two throughout the series to explain their backstory and perhaps even show us how they fell in love. The crumbs of another intimate moment between them was enough to make social media a very active place, with fans calling for Marvel to release the actual scene.
Considering that the cast did multiple takes for each scene and ad-libbed their way through some of the conversations, it's not surprising that some of the footage was left on the cutting room floor, because you can't have multiple versions of the same scene in the finished product.
That much is clear from the alternate take that Assembled unveils, in which Billy tells Agatha (when she was still in her Agnes persona) that he wants to work with "Detective Agatha", describing himself as co-dependent and a team player. The version of the scene that was actually used in the show featured a hilarious conversation between Billy and Agatha when the latter asked him if he really wanted to "poke the bear".
Deleted scenes come with the territory in television and movies, so it's not surprising to learn that some of the footage filmed wasn't used in Agatha All Along. We can just hope that Marvel Television will actually release those scenes to the public (perhaps as the special features on the inevitable 4K UHD release). Now that the fans know they exist, they will no doubt want to see them in full.
