The Marvel's Venom video game gets a major release date update

Audiences last saw the Lethal Protector take over the video game world in Marvel's Spider-Man 2. However, he could make a big comeback soon in his own spin-off.

The headline can be a bit shocking if you aren't up to date on the latest video game rumors. So, let's kick things off with a bit of a recap, shall we? Back in 2023, developer Insomniac Games released its biggest title to date, Marvel's Spider-Man 2. In it, Harry Osborn bonds with a parasitic alien to become a horrifying iteration of Venom.

Prior to the game's release, it seemed as if the Lethal Protector would have a big role to play from the get-go, hunting Spider-Man's every move. Unfortunately, that was far from the case. Despite being constantly hyped up in promotional materials, Venom only appeared in the third act of Marvel's Spider-Man 2. As a result, fans were shocked to discover how little we ended up seeing of the iconic villain, but there was one saving grace in the midst of it all.

There's a single level in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 where players are able to take control of the Lethal Protector and wreak havoc across Oscorp Industries by killing everyone in their path. The fact that Insomniac crafted curated gameplay mechanics for Venom only to be used in one mission seemed off. As such, theories arose suggesting that a spin-off starring the villain could be in the works, and reports—along with Miles Morales's voice actor, Nadji Jeter—eventually confirmed these suspicions. Now, we finally know when this anticipated title could see the light of day.

Marvel's Venom will reportedly be released in 2027

According to insider That REDACTED Guy, Marvel's Venom is on track to be released next year, likely in September. Furthermore, the source confirmed that Insomniac Games is also working on Marvel's Spider-Man 3 and a new Ratchet and Clank title.

Jason Schreier is one of the most trusted scoopers when it comes to the video game industry, and he also stated that Marvel's Venom is alive and well. The statement came after Miles Morales's voice actor, Nadji Jeter, confirmed the game was in the works at some point but ended up being cancelled due to the unfortunate passing of Venom's voice actor, Tony Todd.

Previous reports by MP1st revealed that Harry Osborn won't be the one to bond with the symbiote anymore in the spin-off title. Instead, a new host will be introduced, which is likely to be Eddie Brock. Furthermore, the outlet revealed that Marvel's Venom will be similar in size to Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

A big question to ask is, if such a big title as Marvel's Venom is coming our way next year, why hasn't it been officially revealed? Well, Insomniac has been hard at work crafting Marvel's Wolverine, a highly anticipated video game set to be released on Sep. 15, 2026. As such, it's likely that the studio doesn't want to be its own competitor by announcing that it is working on yet another superhero game. That being said, there's still a chance Marvel's Venom will be unveiled this year.

The Game Awards, one of the industry's biggest events, is set to take place on Dec. 10, 2026, well after the release of Marvel's Wolverine. As such, it would be the perfect place for Marvel's Venom to finally take the spotlight and for Insomniac to unveil a release window.

An interesting thing to consider is that the PlayStation 6 is widely rumored to be released in late 2027 or early 2028. With that in mind, there's a chance that Marvel's Venom is intended to be a launch title for Sony's upcoming console. After all, this is exactly what happened with Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales when the PS5 was first released.

Fortunately, if Marvel's Venom is, indeed, a reality, it shouldn't be long before we have an official announcement. In the meantime, video game players worldwide have a date with Logan soon.

Marvel's Wolverine will be released on Sep. 15, 2026.
