Back in 2021, Marvel made history by announcing the first stand-alone Wolverine video game since the release of X-Men Origins: Wolverine back on May 1, 2009. For the first time in over a decade, players had hope of stepping into the shoes of Logan for a violent solo adventure developed by a world-class developer. There was only one problem with Insomniac Games' upcoming title: nobody knew when to expect its release.

After its reveal, Marvel's Wolverine disappeared from the public eye for a little over four years. Players were worried that the anticipated game would never see the light of day. Fortunately, not only did an official gameplay trailer come our way last year, but now we finally know when we'll get to join Logan in his upcoming adventure. Mark your calendars, Marvel fans, because Marvel's Wolverine finally has a release date.

Marvel's Wolverine will be released earlier than expected on September 15, 2026, for PS5

On September 15, 2026, we'll discover Logan's dark and mysterious past courtesy of Marvel's Wolverine. When the official gameplay trailer came our way, the title was scheduled for a Fall 2026 release. However, it will ultimately hit shelves this summer, which is sooner than anticipated.

PlayStation has found success releasing first-party titles in September, as proven by its historic track record. Astro Bot hit shelves on Sept. 6, 2024, while The Last of Us Part I came our way on Sept. 2, 2022. Furthermore, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends was made available as a standalone purchase separate from the base game on September 3, 2021. This positions Insomniac's title in a very good place for a strong initial reception.

Marvel's Wolverine will also come our way before GTA VI, which is also a major victory. Many publishers are actively planning around Rockstar's upcoming title, as it will take over the entire spotlight for a long period of time. After all, GTA V earned over one billion dollars within just three days of its release, so, understandably, no other studio wants to compete against such a strong "opponent".

Insomniac Games previously announced that we would learn more about Marvel's Wolverine in Spring 2026. So now that the release date has been fast-forwarded a bit, it wouldn't be surprising to learn that we could learn more about the game as soon as March. However, the most likely scenario is that our next big look at Marvel's Wolverine will come during the Summer Game Fest era, which is scheduled to begin on June 5, 2026.

Superhero fans spent many years wondering if Logan's upcoming adventure would ever see the light of day. Fortunately, we finally know when we'll get to dive into Insomniac's Marvel universe once more, and fight against no shortage of iconic antagonists such as Omega Red and Sentinels. Better yet, we aren't that far away from the release date now.

Marvel's Wolverine will be released on September 15, 2026.
