Insomniac Games has been on a roll lately. Not only was the developer one of the first to take full advantage of the PlayStation 5's capabilities with the release of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, but they also created a superhero video game franchise worthy of rivaling the Batman: Arkham saga. Marvel's Spider-Man for PS4 is home to one of the best Spider-Man stories ever created, while its sequel polished the gameplay mechanics in every conceivable way. That's why excitement levels were through the roof when it was announced that Insomniac would also work on a Wolverine video game.

At long last, the first official trailer for Marvel's Wolverine was released, revealing that players are in for a very bloody and violent (and hopefully memorable) adventure. But while a stand-alone game featuring one of Marvel's greatest icons is more than exciting, fans have also wondered if there's room for a potential team-up further down the line. Could Spidey eventually join forces with Logan, given that the same developer is working on the two franchises? Well, it all comes down to whether the games take place in the same universe or not, and we have good news.

Yes, Marvel's Wolverine and Marvel's Spider-Man take place in the same universe

During an interview with Kinda Funny Games, Senior Creative Director at Insomniac Games, Bryan Intihar, confirmed that both Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel's Wolverine take place in Earth-1048 (a number that was designated by the Spider-Verse films). One of the reasons Marvel's Spider-Man 2 includes nods and Easter Eggs of countless Marvel heroes, excepting Logan, is that they wanted the Wolverine game to have complete freedom:

"I think for us it's like 'hey, let's let that team cook', you know. Let them cook, and let them make the game they want to make, and who knows what the future holds? But right now, let's let them do their thing."

Bryan also talked with IGN about how there were discussions of including more teasers hinting at Logan's existence in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, even though those plans ultimately didn't come to fruition: "We wouldn't be true Marvel fans if we didn't have discussions like that, but I think for us it was (...) 'hey, let's let the Wolverine team cook'".

By the looks of it, not only are the two franchises set in the same universe, but there might be a possible crossover on the cards. Granted, Insomniac is currently prioritizing the creation of fantastic stand-alone games that aren't intrinsically tied to each other (which is the right way to go). That being said, the revelation that there have been discussions behind the scenes to add Easter Eggs and nods that confirm that both heroes exist in the same universe is certainly indicative that a bigger plan is on the cards.

Marvel's Wolverine could give us a better idea of what the "Insomniacverse" will look like and whether there are plans for Peter and Logan to team up or not. However, an unannounced title could finally feature the long-awaited crossover we've all been waiting for.

There's a slight chance that Wolverine appears in Marvel's Venom

This headline might seem very crazy without any context, so let me bring you up to speed. Before the release of the most recent Marvel's Wolverine trailer, MP1st reported that Insomniac would release the highly anticipated game in 2026, and now we know that those rumors turned out to be true. Well, wouldn't you know it, but the same source also claimed that Insomniac is working on a Marvel's Venom game.

As if the Lethal Protector having a game of his own wasn't exciting enough, insider That REDACTED Guy revealed that there's a slight chance that Wolverine appears in Marvel's Venom, finally merging Spidey and Logan's world into one.

There's been a bit of a history of Venom fighting Wolverine in video games. The two came face to face not only during the events of Ultimate Spider-Man (2005), but also on Spider-Man: Web of Shadows. At this point, Insomniac knows there's a complicated history between the two characters, and might look to double down on that idea.

Only time will tell if Peter Parker and Logan will cross paths or not, but one thing is certain for the time being: They at least share the same universe, and that's enough to make us excited for what's to come.

Marvel's Wolverine will be released in Fall 2026.
