Marvel won't grant MCU fans their longtime wish

There are differing accounts on whether or not Marvel might stage the crossover fans have been hoping for in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. But one star says it's not happening.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is one of the more anticipated films on the Marvel Cinematic Universe calendar. Picking up where 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home left off, the world has forgotten Peter Parker is Spider-Man as he embarks on a new life as a crimefighter and college student. It seems that this film will further that storyline as we meet a more comic-accurate iteration of the webslinger ready for his own solo adventures.

But perhaps it won't be quite as "solo" as we were initially expecting. Brand New Day is already confirmed to boast some big cameos from Jon Bernthal as the Punisher and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, a.k.a. the Hulk. However, one face many are hoping to see is Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, a.k.a. Daredevil.

Cox did make a cameo in No Way Home as Matt helps Peter with his legal troubles after his identity is revealed. His return to the role followed the cancellation of the Daredevil Netflix show, and he would cameo in a number of other MCU projects, paving the way for the revival Daredevil: Born Again Disney Plus series.

That’s led to buzz on whether the Man Without Fear shows up in Brand New Day, but so far, the rumors seem to be contradicting each other!. Unfortunately, the star himself is also ruling it out.

Charlie Cox says he's not in Spider-Man: Brand New Day (even though the rumors say otherwise)

This all started when Comic Book Movie shared a post from scooper Nuke the Fridge claiming that someone told him that Charlie Cox was going to be in the movie. While all rumors should be taken with a grain of salt, it was fueled by Cox bowing out of a convention appearance due to a scheduling conflict. Naturally, fans speculated if he was preparing to film scenes for Spider-Man: Brand New Day which is currently in production.

However, established scooper MyTimeToShineHello shared a recent announcement confirming that Cox is now heading to film the Apple TV+ film This Is How It Goes in October. Based on the play, the film has Cox and Idris Elba (who also directs) in a drama about a couple who take in an old school friend only to discover his dark secrets.

With that production starting up, it makes it unlikely that Cox could appear as Daredevil in the film in anything but a short cameo. This doesn’t rule out the MCU star potentially making a brief cameo as Matt Murdock, but a full appearance in costume may not be in the cards.

Of course, we also can't discount the fact that Cox himself ruled out an appearance in the film, recently saying that he would not be appearing in either it or Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. The internet doesn't believe him because Marvel actors have a reputation for saying "I'm not in that movie" only for them to absolutely be in that movie - especially when it comes to Spider-Man and Avengers movies.

Fans have longed for a Spider-Man / Daredevil team-up in the MCU

A team-up between the two is something fans would enjoy, as in the comics, Spider-Man and Daredevil have a long friendship with some fun banter between them. In their brief scene together in No Way Home, Cox and Tom Holland shared good chemistry to build on. Having the crime-fighters unite on screen is one of those MCU moments fans have long dreamed of.

The best reason for Cox not appearing in Brand New Day is that the film is already packed with so many characters, including reports of several classic Spider-Man villains like the Scorpion and Tombstone. With so much in there already, tossing in a DD cameo may seem a bit much.

Then again, we know Marvel loves these surprise appearances and enjoys keeping things quiet from fans. So it’s possible Spider-Man may get some help from Daredevil and give fans the MCU team-up they’ve long wanted. We’ll stay on top of it for further news.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives in movie theaters on July 31, 2026.
