We've ventured into a brand new year which means we get to look forward to a multitude of new titles from our favorite studios. For Marvel fans, that means there will be plenty of content from the Marvel Cinematic Universe on both the big and small screens, After a somewhat less busy 2024 in the cinematic department, 2025 will offer up Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, all of which are set to be pivotal pieces of the Multiverse Saga.
Ever since 2021, the studio has also been entertaining us on television, with multiple Disney Plus shows a year. Both live-action content canon to the franchise and animated shows that entertain us every bit as much, Marvel Studios have tried their hand at a bit of everything. And it's working.
Speaking of which, Marvel's first foray onto the small screen this year comes in the form of an animated series that will focus on our favorite webslinger - and now we know that it will have something of a longer run than some fans expected it to have.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will release weekly
The release schedule for upcoming animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man has been confirmed. The 10-episode series will debut new episodes on a weekly basis, with the first two premiering on Wednesday, January 29 and the subsequent eight coming out each week after that. The confirmation comes from the official Marvel Studios Japan account, which made the announcement over the weekend in a post on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.
While the release date had already been confirmed last year, it was unknown if the show would release new episodes weekly, daily, or even in a single binge. Although weekly is the regular Marvel approach, fellow animated series What If...? has released its episodes daily for two of its three seasons, while Echo - which was the first Marvel Television show of 2024 - released its episodes all in one drop to binge.
So fans really didn't know what to expect from Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, but it seems that Marvel has opted for the traditional approach. And, provided nothing changes between now and its debut, that would mean that the show's season finale would stream on March 26, 2025.
Formerly titled Spider-Man: Freshman Year, the animated series looks to showcase Peter Parker's early days as the webslinger. It's described as an ensemble piece that will give focus to some of the other characters in Peter's life, including his friend Harry Osborn and his father Norman (voiced by Colman Domingo).
The show is not canon to the events of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but it does exist in a parallel dimension to it, making it a crucial part of the MCU's Multiverse Saga. So even though this isn't the origins of Tom Holland's Spidey, it is the beginning of the story for one of his many, many variants in the multiverse.
Speaking of new beginnings, this is the start of a big year for Marvel that will also see Disney Plus releases such as Daredevil: Born Again, Ironheart, Eyes of Wakanda, Marvel Zombies, and Wonder Man.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man arrives on Disney Plus on January 29, 2025.
