The MCU is finally doing the one thing Spider-Man fans have been hoping for

Despite having three movies under his belt, with a fourth one coming soon, there are many things Spidey has yet to do in the MCU, but that's about to change.

We've seen Tom Holland's Spider-Man accomplish no shortage of impressive feats throughout his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He joined Earth's Mightiest Heroes, traveled to space, teamed up with two multiversal versions of himself, and even died... before being brought back to life. However, the friendly neighborhood hero's tale is just beginning, as he's about to start a brand new chapter in his life.

All eyes are currently set on the upcoming MCU film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The wall-crawler will go back to basics and star in a street-level adventure where he'll be completely alone (just as fans love). But after Peter defeats the Hand, Tombstone, and Scorpion, he's set to battle for the fate of the multiverse in the upcoming Avengers movies.

While Spider-Man hasn't been confirmed to be in either Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars yet, it would be a shocker if he didn't have a role to play, especially considering he's one of Marvel's most popular heroes. So what can we expect from the wall-crawler in his future MCU appearances? Well, thanks to a beloved Marvel leaker, we finally have an answer.

Mark Ruffalo confirms Spider-Man will fight an alien in the future

When Marvel starts behaving more secretively than normal, you can always count on either Mark Ruffalo or Tom Holland to spill the beans. However, in this very interesting scenario, the former spoiled a future storyline that the latter will portray.

Mark Ruffalo recently participated in a Q&A at Italy’s Ministry of Education and Merit. As was to be expected, the MCU was brought up, and Ruffalo revealed that we'll see Spider-Man battle an alien soon:

"I can promise you 1,000% that [Spider-Man] will be fighting an alien in the future."

Unfortunately, it wasn't specified in which movie this is set to happen, or who the alien facing the wall-crawler will be. However, the pieces are all set for Marvel to replicate an iconic event that took place in the source material.

The very first time that Spider-Man bonded with the symbiote in comic books was during the Secret Wars (1984) run on Battleworld, after the hero's costume was damaged. While nothing has been confirmed by Marvel yet, it has been heavily reported that Avengers: Doomsday will culminate with the creation of Battleworld, where Doom will reign supreme over everything and everyone.

It has also been rumored that most MCU characters will be under Doom's control in Avengers: Secret Wars, with Tom Holland's Spider-Man being one of the few exceptions. That means the wall-crawler will need all the help he can get to free Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and that's where the symbiote could come in.

It would be poetic if Peter got to wear the iconic black suit for the first time in over two decades on the big screen during Avengers: Secret Wars. Besides, it's important to remember that the Spider-Man: No Way Home post-credits scene already teased that potential storyline.

Back in 2021, fans believed the Venom symbiote would have a role to play in Spider-Man 4 (now titled Brand New Day). But while that wasn't the case, it's important to remember that some Marvel setups take years to come to fruition. After all, that's exactly what happened with Scorpion, who was first teased during the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017, and will finally take the spotlight for himself later this year.

Renowned insider Alex Perez reported that the potential villains for Spider-Man's upcoming trilogy are Kingpin, Tombstone, and Venom (among others). Furthermore, actor Michael Mando teased that his MCU character, Mac Gargan, will eventually become the Lethal Protector on the big screen. But we all know Spidey must wear the black suit before Venom enters the picture. That could happen as soon as during the upcoming Avengers movies, where Mark Ruffalo will reportedly have a role to play, explaining why he knows about the upcoming storyline.

Peter Parker is now at the lowest point of his life. No one remembers he ever existed, his close family is dead, and he's about to undergo a terrifying transformation in Brand New Day. Now would be the perfect time for him to bond with the symbiote, so fingers crossed that ends up being the case.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Dec. 18, 2026.
