One of the world's biggest movie stars "in talks" to rejoin the MCU (in a new role)

A major movie star could be on the verge of returning to the MCU sooner than expected.

There is no shortage of star power in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The franchise just goes from strength to strength in so many aspects of its existence, and perhaps its greatest example of that is Marvel Studios' ability to cast the right actors in the right roles. And it's been a who's who of legends when it comes to filling out the MCU.

With the Multiverse Saga now exploring new possibilities in the franchise, some classic Marvel movie stars are making their presence felt in the MCU. It's monumental, and what's even more monumental than that is that the Harrison Ford has joined the fray, appearing in Captain America: Brave New World as President Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross.

It also sounds like another major movie star is set to join - or, well rejoin - the franchise in a big role.

Henry Cavill rumored to be in talks for a full time role in the MCU

According to veteran Marvel scooper MyTimeToShineHello, Henry Cavill is in talks for a "full role" in the MCU. It's a big scoop that has sent the internet into meltdown and it would certainly be a huge steal for Marvel Studios if they managed to get him in the franchise. Well, back in the franchise.

Cavill already has ties to the MCU, having just this year made a major cameo appearance in Deadpool and Wolverine, playing a variant of Wolverine that Deadpool affectionately named "The Cavillrine". It was a moment that took the world by storm and had fans longing to see more of him in the role; and that was genuinely a mission accomplished moment for Marvel, as the actor had been a fan-favorite choice to play Wolverine in the franchise, and this allowed them to see what he would have looked like in the role.

Cavill may be no stranger to the MCU, but he's also no stranger to superhero movies and nerd culture. He is definitely best-known for his iconic performance as Superman and Clark Kent in the DC Extended Universe, kicking off his tenure in the red cape in 2013's Man of Steel before reprising the role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, and Zack Snyder's Justice League.

He then made a triumphant return in a teaser after Black Adam announcing his return to the role a mere weeks before it was subsequently announced by James Gunn and Peter Safran that they would actually be starting Supes' story from the beginning again (with the David Corenswet-led Superman movie set for release in July 2025).

Cavill also portrayed Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's The Witcher before he departed the show (and was replaced in the role by Liam Hemsworth) but he has since gone on to star in Argylle, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and the upcoming In The Grey. He is also set to star in Prime Video's adaptation of the Warhammer 40,000 franchise. His name has also come up in the countless fan discussions about James Bond, with many believing he would be a great choice for the role.

All that being said, Cavill has been linked to the MCU in the two years since his DC departure, with plenty of rumors suggesting he would play a major character in the franchise. Among the rumors were roles as Wolverine or Captain Britain. Now that he has already played the Wolverine in a cameo appearance, could those long-standing Captain Britain rumors come to fruition?

With the MCU's Multiverse Saga in full swing, it would be totally believable if Cavill were to take on another character in the franchise. After all, the MCU had cast the same actor in two different roles long before the days of the multiverse were a thing, so now they would actually have an excuse for doing so.

It might take some time before we see Cavill in an MCU production again, but it goes without saying that Marvel fans would love to see it happen some day.
