There is a lot riding on the success of James Gunn's upcoming Superman movie. The movie, simply titled Superman, is set to officially relaunch the DC Universe franchise in the live-action medium. Produced by the newly-formed DC Studios, which Gunn co-chairs with Peter Safran, the film is set for release next summer with David Corenswet playing the titular hero, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as the villainous Lex Luthor.

Production on Superman commenced earlier this summer and concluded just a few weeks ago, and the set photos that surfaced during it certainly encouraged conversations among fans. It gave us our first full look at Corenswet's super-suit, which was ironically much better received than the divisive official look released just a few weeks prior.

But again, this movie is set to launch the DC Universe after the collapse of the previous DCExtended Universe, so it needs to be a success. The good news is that a new report claims that any Super fans out there worried about whether it will deliver or not need not be worried anymore.

Superman is "going all out" to impress audiences

According to prolific insider Daniel Richtman, James Gunn's Superman is fantastic. He also revealed that he heard they are "going all out" with "a complete shift to hardcore sci-fi and fantasy, the exact opposite of Man of Steel". Furthermore, it is described as being set in a world different from both ours and the DCEU, with established heroes already existing - which will have impacted the history of the DC Universe.

That's a lot of information, but the one thing we can take away from it is that it all sounds great. Fans weren't really sure about much regarding the plot of Superman or how it would impact the DCU going forward, which is only fitting given that it is the first movie in the franchise, so this is some of the first real information we're learning about it. And it sounds very promising.

This report about heroes already being established in the DCEU also backs up the set photos that surfaced earlier this year, which saw Nathan Fillion as a Green Lantern and Isabella Merced as Hawkgirl. Those photos in particular prompted a lot of discussion, with fans wondering how the idea of other heroes already existing in the DCU would impact Superman's origin story.

It will certainly differentiate it from other adaptations, as Superman is usually the arrival that opens the eyes of DC characters to super-powered beings and aliens, but that won't be the case here. And that's likely a good thing, as the movie is going to find itself compared to 2013's Man of Steel. In many ways, it already has.

That film starred Henry Cavill and it was the first movie in Warner Bros.' DCEU. It wasn't until sequel Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice that the shared universe came into existence, but it does highlight how Superman is a favored choice to kick off a DC story.

Nevertheless, everything revealed about Superman from this report sounds exciting and it has no doubt increased anticipation for the DC movie - anticipation that was already so high it was up, up, and away.

No, I won't apologize for that joke.
