Avengers: Doomsday is still revealing surprise cast members, but one Marvel star is keeping her involvement a secret. Avengers: Doomsday will feature the largest cast of any MCU movie to date, including established heroes, returning icons, and even the original Fox X-Men actors. However, one cast member who is keeping their involvement close to the chest is Tessa Thompson.
When asked by The Playlist about whether she would be reprising her role as Valkyrie in Avengers: Doomsday, Thompson simply shared “Oh, [I’m] not able to confirm anything.” While there have been several Marvel stars who have flatly denied being in Avengers: Doomsday, Thompson's response leaves a little more room to speculate about whether she might be back.
Thompson debuted in the role of Asgardian warrior Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok, becoming a standout new character. Since then, she has appeared in three live-action movies and two animated series. Valkyrie was last seen in a brief cameo in The Marvels. With Chris Hemsworth returning as Thor for perhaps the last time in Avengers: Doomsday, there is room for Valkyrie to appear.

Valkyrie's future in the MCU
Despite it being nearly three years since we last saw Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie, there is no reason to suggest she won't return. Some big MCU stars are missing for even longer, like Doctor Strange and Shang-Chi, and Valkyrie's role in Marvel Zombies proves the cinematic universe is still keen on the character.
The truth is that Valkyrie could have an even bigger role in the MCU going forward. The brief trailer for Avengers: Doomsday certainly seems as though it is setting this up to be Thor's final adventure as he is focusing on being a father now. This would leave room for a new Asgardian hero to emerge, which is a role Valkyrie has been set up for since becoming the new ruler of Asgard.
This could allow for Valkyrie to be explored in some new ways, beyond being the supporting character in Thor's adventures. Thompson nailed the comedic style with which the character was first introduced, but Valkyrie is also a deeply damaged hero, still grappling with the trauma of her past. Getting a more serious take on the character could really make her a standout MCU character and allow Thompson to show off her amazing talents.
