Back in 2002, Tobey Maguire made history by starring in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, a movie that not only reinvigorated the superhero genre as a whole but also paved the way for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to become what it is today. Now, he could make history yet again by joining the biggest live-action superhero project to date in the form of Avengers: Doomsday.

The upcoming crossover will reunite characters from all corners of the multiverse to fight against Doctor Doom in an attempt to save reality as a whole. But even if Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man isn't officially confirmed to be a part of the movie just yet, there's a lot of evidence to suggest that will be the case.

Insiders such as Daniel Richtman and MyTimeToShineHello have revealed that the original Spidey will be back for one more swing later this year. Furthermore, leaked Avengers: Doomsday pictures (which are presumed to be real and not AI-generated) showcase Tobey back in action. As if that wasn't enough, it is rumored that the wall-crawler will even get to fight Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. So let's suppose for a minute that "Peter 2" does join Earth's Mightiest Heroes in their upcoming adventure; the question then becomes: Will he survive what's to come? Well, we may finally have an answer.

Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man will reportedly survive the events of Avengers: Doomsday

According to reliable scooper Alex Perez, Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker won't bite the dust in Avengers: Doomsday. Furthermore, insider That REDACTED Guy doubled down on this idea by stating that the web-slinger will live to see another day, even if he is badly beaten by Doctor Doom. It's nice to know Marvel won't bring back such a legendary character only to have him die by the third act for shock value. However, this raises another question: Could the door be open for his return in Avengers: Secret Wars?

Rumor has it that Avengers: Doomsday will be all about the creation of Battleworld—a single world that is the amalgamation of many different universes. That means that every Marvel character across the multiverse that survives the events of Doomsday would then live in Battleworld, the very same place that would act as the main stage for Avengers: Secret Wars. With that in mind, it wouldn't be far-fetched to assume Tobey will also return in the last MCU movie set in the Multiverse Saga. Better yet, another report supports this idea.

Daniel Richtman revealed that Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker, Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool, Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, and Tom Holland's Spider-Man will all have major roles in Avengers: Secret Wars. This group would make for a perfect combination of veterans and "new" blood that might surpass anything ever done in the MCU to date. This team-up would also act as the perfect farewell for some of the characters that we've seen on the big screen for decades now.

It has been reported that Secret Wars will mark the end of the story of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Men. For the time being, it remains unknown whether they will be able to return to their home worlds after Doom is defeated and the MCU goes back to "normal". However, it isn't surprising to learn the two legendary heroes won't be around anymore, considering that Tom Holland still has a long road ahead of him that includes a potential crossover with Daredevil and a symbiote storyline. With that in mind, let's hope that Marvel gives the heroes before him a proper farewell before it is their time to go.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Dec. 18, 2026.
