Almost three years after AMC's The Walking Dead concluded its historic 11-season run, the shared universe of zombies, heroes, and villains, who all walk the line between good and evil so many times, is still ongoing. That's right; The Walking Dead lives, and in a very unique, snackable format that ensures fans of the franchise can continue to get all of their post-apocalyptic adventures starring some of their favorite characters.

It all started with spinoff The Walking Dead: Dead City, which paved the way for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon and the Rick Grimes and Michonne-led The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. Daryl Dixon returned for a second season, while Dead City did the same earlier this year. And naturally, fans of the TWD Universe have been left wondering when the next installment of their beloved franchise will debut.

With Dead City's second season ending on a memorable note, the good news is that those fans won't have to wait too long for their next installment of the TWD Universe after all.

AMC confirms The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 release date as the show is coming sooner than we thought

The next chapter in the TWD Universe is none other than The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3, and it's officially set to premiere on AMC and AMC+ on September 7 2025. This is a little earlier than fans were expecting given that the second season premiered at the end of September 2024, but it's more in-line with the first season's debut, which premiered on the same Sunday in 2023. And what a way to celebrate that two-year anniversary as we will have new episodes of the show to enjoy.

Although it was clear that Daryl Dixon would return for a third season, it was only known that the show would be back in the fall. However, AMC officially confirmed its release date after it released a brand new trailer during the season 2 finale of The Walking Dead: Dead City, ensuring that TWD fans would know when to expect the next installment of the beloved shared universe. Speaking of which, you can check out the trailer below:

The second season of the beloved show took things in a very different direction and, although it was divisive given how acclaimed its first season was, it promises interesting new storylines for Daryl and his best friend Carol Peletier. The badass duo reunited in the second season, which was subtitled The Book of Carol, as Carol found her way to France to track him down. When she was successful in doing so, they attempted to get Laurent back to their home in the US in the hopes of saving him from the dangers of the villains in France who attempted to harm him. They pulled it off, with the help of Carol's new friend Ash, but the pair were left behind in France.

In the season 2 finale, they attempted to make their way further into Europe as they tried to begin what is undoubtedly going to be a long journey home for them. There were already dangers in the dark tunnel that they faced but they overcame their demons - both physical and mental - and carried on. We know that this journey will lead them to Spain, where the third season will spend much of its time. That said, they will also find their way to London this season, so we should be expecting some major surprises from the world of The Walking Dead. But hey, what's new there?

It's 2025 and we still have plenty of The Walking Dead content to look forward to. What a time to be a TWD fan, right?!
