The Star Wars franchise is one of the most famous in Hollywood history. You won't be able to go far without encountering someone who knows and loves the legendary movie series that George Lucas first brought to screens in the 1970s. It has stood the test of time and somehow gained popularity over the years. And even now, it continues to evolve.
With the story of the Skywalker Saga over (for now), Lucasfilm has been focusing on continuing the iconic movie series' story through various Disney Plus TV shows - which have either filled in gaps in the lore or told new, unexplored stories. The most recent, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, features Jude Law as a space pirate named Jod Na Nawood, who becomes something of a would-be protector to a bunch of young children who are attempting to return to their home planet At Attin. But being a pirate, Jod's allegiances are questioned, especially as treasure has been waiting for him at the end of this journey to At Attin.
As the compelling Skeleton Crew wraps its run, fans' sights are set on the next chapter in the beloved Star Wars universe. The good news is that you won't have to wait too long for it.
Andor season 2 is the next Star Wars show and it is coming out in April
If you are ready for the next chapter in the rich Star Wars universe, you can watch it very soon. The second season of Andor will answer the call, and it arrives on our screens on Tuesday, April 22 2025. Although it hasn't been confirmed if it will be released early in the morning or during primetime hours, we speculate that it will be the latter as Disney Plus has enjoyed a lot of success with that release format over the past year. It will also consist of 12 episodes.
The first season of Andor was released in 2022 and it was critically-acclaimed from the beginning. A spinoff of 2016 film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (which takes place before even the first Star Wars movie), it sees Diego Luna reprise his role as Cassian Andor to tell a story that sets the stage for the 2016 movie. Yes, it's a prequel series, and to say that it has added to the lore in a thrilling way would be an understatement.
While excitement is high for the show's return after its near-three-year break, it will also be a bittersweet occasion as Andor season 2 will also serve as the show's final season. It was originally intended to run for five seasons, but both Diego Luna and showrunner Tony Gilroy realized five or six episodes into filming the first season that it would be too much of a stretch, particularly as Andor himself would have had to look younger than he did in Rogue One for potentially the next 15 years. With that, they found that the structure of the show itself allowed for the second season to be reworked into a final season that wouldn't negatively impact the original plan for the series.
While all Star Wars shows have seen varying degrees of success and response from audiences, Andor is arguably the best-received from a critical standpoint. It even earned itself an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Drama Series.
