Why there isn't a new episode of Agatha All Along on tonight
Agatha All Along has not been holding back. Marvel Studios' spooky spectacular has quickly become a fixture of Fall TV's line-up this year, earning itself praise and adoration from fans of both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and just plain witchy content in general. This has allowed it to be one of the most talked-about shows of the season, and rightfully so given how strong it has been.
The WandaVision spinoff has hooked Disney Plus fans left, right, and center throughout the weeks and its eighth and ninth episodes were no different. After the powerful reveal that Teen, portrayed by Joe Locke, was actually Billy Maximoff this whole time and had created the Witches' Road with his mind, Agatha Harkness revealed that the notion of The Ballad of the Witches' Road opening the Road itself was always a con. It was the biggest twist of the season, but one that the show landed extremely well.
But if the biggest question that the previous two episodes left you with is "will there be another episode on this week?", we have some bad news for you. There won't be any new episodes of Agatha All Along airing this Wednesday, or any other Wednesday (for the foreseeable, at least).
Here's why.
Agatha All Along's run has concluded (for now)
Two episodes of Agatha All Along were released last week because both served as the show's two-part finale. That's right, episodes 8 and 9 were the concluding chapters of the story, designed to bring the show's run to an end (for now) and set up the next arc for the characters who survived the treacherous trek down the Witches' Road.
It was the first of those installments that actually saw them complete the Road, to the surprise of many. Jennifer Kale got her powers back, Billy was able to place his brother Tommy's life force into a body, and Agatha even got her powers back; although the purple witch didn't get them for completing the Road. It was Billy who charged her with his own powers, allowing the two of them to briefly battle Death. But in the end, Agatha sacrificed herself so that Billy could live.
The ninth episode was more of an epilogue that also served as a prologue to the story, showing us Agatha's beginnings, her life with her son Nicky, and how his death led to the creation of the power-hungry Agatha we now know. It then wrapped up with Billy closing the gate that he created and venturing out to find his brother, with Agatha (who had now become a ghost) by his side.
It was a very final conclusion that also left the door open for more. The question is whether that "more" will come in the form of a second season or a follow-up. Yes, Agatha All Along episode 10 may not be airing this week, but there is a chance that it could exist out there in the future.
Agatha All Along season 2 is seemingly still on the table
A second season of Agatha All Along wasn't ever a given, simply because it operated like a miniseries. Like its predecessor WandaVision, it told a very one-and-done story that also teased the potential of future storylines in other projects. And those other projects are Vision Quest, the second WandaVision spinoff that will bring back Paul Bettany as Vision, as well as the long-rumored Young Avengers movie that is expected to bring back Joe Locke as Wiccan.
Insider Daniel Richtman also reports that a Wiccan series is in development, with Joe Locke and Kathryn Hahn expected to return for that. If that comes to fruition, that could very well serve as the spitural second season of Agatha All Along as it would be a sequel series with its two main characters returning for a new adventure. But as its premise would be different (finding Tommy Maximoff) and Billy would likely take the lead while Agatha played a supporting main role, it would also be different enough to justify standing as its own series, too.
However, in recent days, the likelihood of Agatha All Along season 2 has unexpectedly increased. Variety reveals that Marvel Studios will submit the series for Best Comedy Series categories in the awards circuit instead of Best Limited Series, which implies that there could be another season in the future.
It's not yet clear whether Marvel or Disney plan to renew it for another season, but the incredibly positive reception and strong viewing figures could have changed the minds of those who initially envisioned it as a miniseries. Even though anticipation was always high for the show, there were fears that Marvel Studios' recent string of misses on both film and TV could impact this one negatively, but that wasn't the case at all, as Agatha All Along became a spooky season phenomenon, generating buzz to levels similar to that of its parent series.
We'll have to wait and see if the series returns for a second season in the future, but there is a much stronger possibility of it happening than ever before. So, even though the show won't be airing new episodes anytime soon, it could do so again at some point down the line.
If it doesn't, however, its stories will continue in subsequent projects. Yes, Agatha and Billy will be back at some point in the future. Let's just hope it's sooner rather than later.
