The Ultimate Universe was run by some of the most despicable people on Earth-6160. Among them were Captain Britain, Khonshu Ra, Silver Samurai, Sun Emperor, Viper, Obadiah Stane, Mikhail Rasputin, Arkady Rossovich, Piotr Rasputin, Illyana Rasputin, Black King (Emmanuel Da Costa), and the Hulk. All of them were evil in their own way, but Bruce Banner (the Hulk) may have been at the top of the list.
Unlike the Bruce Banner of Earth-616, this version’s experimentation with gamma radiation led to people on a Pacific island nation being killed or disfigured. Later, Hulk, claiming to be a being of peace, ran a group/cult called the Children of Eternal Light and became a martial arts expert and Iron Fist (as if a Hulk weren't enough).
The gamma experiment mentioned earlier didn’t just turn Bruce Banner into a Hulk. Pacific island native Lejori Joena Zakaria was transformed into one as well. After brutally losing her first encounter with Banner (Ultimates No. 6), Lejori (codename: She-Hulk) was given a chance at revenge in Ultimates No. 24.
Hulk vs She-Hulk
Before the two titans fought, Bruce Banner’s Iron Fist abilities were taken from him by Shen Qi by ripping them from his heart like the Iron Fists do with the great dragon, Shou-Lao. However, even without these abilities, this was still the Hulk (a monster with zero morals) with martial arts skills. That means he was still a force to be reckoned with. He proved it by still beating Janet Van Dyne (the Wasp), Hank Pym (Giant Man), and She-Hulk.
Just when you think Banner would escape justice once again, Lejori reminds him that he is on her land and that it gives her power. She said, "Men like you have no relationship to the land. For you, it is only something more to possess, a commodity, like a television or a chair. For us, it's a living thing!"
Normally, quotes like this are metaphorical. In this case, it was literal as well. It appeared that Lejori was absorbing the gamma from her land and using it to make her stronger. So, when the Hulk went for a final blow, she blocked it, ripped Banner’s heart out, and proceeded to beat him to a pulp. After realizing what she’d done, Lejori was in shock. And while this writer understands her surprise and possible disappointment in herself, Ultimate Hulk deserved this and more.
So far, most of the Maker’s Council has been killed or captured. With one issue of Ultimate Endgame remaining, we’ll have to see if the remaining members face some kind of justice. There should especially be some for Captain America, who was killed by Captain Britain. But, with the Maker involved, who knows?
