Marvel's Doctor Doom gets support from an unlikely source

One of the Mighty Avengers makes a case that Doctor Doom could actually be trying to help people. That is, until someone else shows up at the end of One World Under Doom.

Ever since Victor Von Doom became the Sorcerer Supreme in Marvel Comics (Blood Hunt), the heroes on Earth have been skeptical of him. Then, out of nowhere like an RKO, he became the emperor of Earth (One World Under Doom No. 1). That left the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and the other protectors of the planet concerned about what he was up to. So far, he hasn’t been up to anything.

Doctor Doom has done everything on the up-and-up. Furthermore, when Scarlet Witch looked into how he gained power, she learned that Victor didn’t do anything nefarious. He just preyed on the weakness of leaders. He gave them what they wanted, and, in return, he gained control.

Doom faced his first real challenge in issue No. 4 of One World Under Doom when Dormammu removed all the heroes from Earth. He brought them all back at the end of the comic, and issue No. 5 begins with a team-up that ends with Dormammu being banished back to his realm with a forever spell. However, it comes with a catch. The banishment remains until Doom is no longer emperor.

After the smoke cleared, the heroes couldn’t help but notice that the danger ended without anyone dying. This leaves, of all people, Thor to bring up a good point about what’s going on. Doctor Doom may be in the right.

"His literal last name... is DOOM!"
Tony Stark

The current All-Father of the Ten Realms says that his father Odin was a ruler and a king. And while he wasn’t always a good person or father, he remained a good king. So maybe it was time to give thought to what their enemy has done for its people. Of course, Tony Stark refuses to acknowledge any of this because he knows his long-time enemy is up to something. Still, Thor tells them to think.

The heroes think for less than a minute before the mood changes when Maria Hill shows up. She says she knows how Victor von Doom keeps winning, and they keep losing. And, let’s be honest, no one is shocked. Because, at some point, things had to go back to normal.

Scarlet Witch and the Goblin Queen may have found nothing with magic and telepathy, but that doesn’t mean anything. Doom is a master of the mystic arts and science and closed himself away from the world for months. The question is: What was he doing?

Victor von Doom has a time machine and the ability to do things Reed Richards and Doctor Strange can't or won’t. That’s why the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and others can’t predict what he’s up to. Their minds can’t go to the places Doom’s will.

Thankfully, Maria Hill went to the school of Nick Fury. Writer Ryan North picked the right person to discover the truth. Hill knows the places to look that the other heroes won't. What that is remains to be seen, but Bam Smack Pow will be here to report what Maria Hill knows and how she discovered the truth.
