Being part of Avengers: Doomsday is a big deal. It will be the first big Avengers title since Tony Stark died saving the universe from a younger and more vengeful Thanos in the groundbreaking 2019 film Avengers: Endgame. Yes. Thunderbolts* was retitled New Avengers, but I’m not counting that since it was renamed after the movie was in theaters. But those New Avengers will be joining many of the classic Avengers in the upcoming Marvel Studios game-changer.
With many fan favorites like Tom Hiddleston and Robert Downey Jr. (albeit in a new role) returning, and newcomers like the Fantastic Four being confirmed to appear too, people will undoubtedly start to wonder what their roles will be. It’s easy to guess that the heroes will be trying to stop Doctor Doom from destroying / reshaping the multiverse (though that could change). However, we still don’t know how they’ll get involved.
Well, according to one prolific insider, one of the original Avengers' returning story may have been revealed.
The potential story behind Thor's MCU return in Avengers: Doomsday
Trusted insider Alex Perez recently conducted another Q&A with fans (via The Cosmic Circus) and the subject of Thor, and his involvement in Avengers: Doomsday, came up. We know that Chris Hemsworth is set to reprise his role as the God of Thunder in the upcoming movie, but what kind of role might he have? Well, when asked by a fan “Anything on what Thor is getting up to in (Avengers) Doomsday?”, Perez responded with an answer that no one could have seen coming:
“Raising Gorr’s daughter, whom I believe is the one who will alert Thor of the incoming battle, since she’s connected to the cosmic being Eternity, who is being threatened by the current situation.”
If that’s the case, then this is a cool way to bring the God of Thunder back into the MCU.

Obviously, take from this what you will, because it is still a rumor. We won’t know anything definitively until Avengers: Doomsday is released. Furthermore, if this is what happens in the current version of the script, elements within the storyline can also change due to various things like storyline changes, improvised lines and life outside of Marvel Studios. The latter can turn an entire universe upside down.
Beyond that, people forget that what happened in Thor: Love and Thunder can affect the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Using Gorr’s daughter as a conduit to bring in the Odinson to the Multiverse Saga's conclusion is an interesting idea - particularly because that film pretty much exists as a standalone right now with no kind of continuation as of yet. Fans often forget about the project, and others dismiss it as if it never happened (let's just say it was one of the most divisive MCU installments).
But if this Avengers: Doomsday storyline turns out to be true, it could retroactively make Love and Thunder one of the Multiverse Saga's most important movies. And this might just make people revisit this one to see what they may have missed and look for clues for what could happen next in Avengers: Doomsday.
Furthermore, if something as powerful as Eternity is being used, then whatever is going on is huge. You don’t throw out a cosmic being like this without something affecting the universe. And since we’re looking at a multiverse-changing event, whatever’s happening could confirm that Marvel Studios could be looking to reboot the franchise. Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow to find out if that happens.
