It's safe to say that Avengers: Doomsday is the circled event on all Marvel fans' calendars. The circle has moved in recent weeks as the film has been delayed from May 2026 to December 2026, but that has only increased the anticipation for the movie. If Marvel needs more time to make the biggest event in the Multiverse Saga even bigger and better, then that can only mean we're in for something truly mind-blowing. You don't have to sell the Marvel Cinematic Universe fans on any more than that.

But the truth is that Marvel Studios has been going above and beyond to sell the movie to audiences ever since it was repackaged from Avengers: The Kang Dynasty to Avengers: Doomsday. It all started with the San Diego Comic-Con announcement that Robert Downey Jr. would be returning to the franchise but in the new role as big bad Doctor Doom and it has all led to that internet-breaking cast reveal just a few months ago.

The star-studded line-up is just the tip of the iceberg, as fans are already speculating that there will be a host of multiversal surprises in there that won't be revealed until the movie is released. But one of the film's stars has confirmed his return, addressing it in a recent interview with some exciting reveals.

Tom Hiddleston addresses Loki return, confirms he'll be back but won't spoil surprises

Tom Hiddleston has confirmed the news that he will return as Loki in Avengers: Doomsday. It's not all that surprising to those who are keeping up with all of the MCU gossip and updates as Hiddleston's name was among the 27 confirmed stars of the upcoming movie, but to those who aren't aware of all that, it's huge. It's particularly huge because he addressed the reports, acknolwedged his return, and even teased some surprises to come.

In a new interview with Men's Health Magazine, the Loki star was asked about whether his reported comeback could come with some surprises, particularly other MCU stars who had yet to be confirmed. The veteran actor was promoting his new movie The Life of Chuck, in which he stars alongside Karen Gillan and Chiwetel Ejiofor - both of whom also have roles in the MCU. When asked if they could reprise their respective roles as Nebula and Baron Karl Mordo in Avengers: Doomsday, he responded:

"It’s a great question, and it’s one I don’t know if I’m allowed to answer, truthfully. But you are correct in that I will appear in Avengers: Doomsday. That I can confirm. And that I’ll be working opposite some other actors in that film, that I can confirm. I can’t tell you which actors."

This isn't the first time that Hiddleston has directly addressed his return in Avengers: Doomsday but it is a rare opportunity as the the cast of that movie have rarely spoken about the cast reveal up until this point. That's largely because of the fact that they are often unsure of what Marvel has announced and what they are allowed to reveal. If you're a longtime fan of the franchise, you'll know that the studio goes above and beyond to protect spoilers, which is one of the reasons that the cast announcement - which came a whole year out from the film's initially-planned May 2026 release - was a surprise to so many.

But for Hiddleston, the chance to reprise the role of Loki 15 years after he debuted the role in 2011's Thor is a gift. He says that he's "grateful that [he's] still on the team" and reveals:

"Loki’s been a companion for a long period of my adult life. Loki’s a character of such depth and range and complexity, and it never feels like the same experience. It always feels new, and this one will be new in its own way."

When we last caught up with Loki in the season 2 finale - and likely series finale - of his own show, the God of Mischief sacrificed his chance at a life of his own to portect the lives of his loved ones in the Time Variance Authority. After the death of He Who Remains (a variant of Kang the Conqueror), the Temporal Loom became unhinged and threatend to wipe out not just the Sacred Timeline, but the whole multiverse. To prevent that from happening, Loki enchanted the timelines around him and took his place on the throne at the End of Time, becoming the God of Stories and protecting the Multiverse.

When Doctor Doom arrives in Avengers: Doomsday, he will no doubt be called into action. Given that this is a different version of Loki than the one who died in Avengers: Infinity War, audiences are particularly excited to see him reunite with his brother Thor (actor Chris Hemsworth is confirmed to be part of the cast) and potentially help the Avengers defeat the villain, protecting the multiverse once and for all.
