10. The Rise of Skywalker's pacing and story choices

The first thing that came out of my mouth after watching this in theaters was "This was literally two movies jammed into one," and it's so painfully true.

That's pretty much how The Rise of Skywalker felt for a lot of Star Wars fans. The movie tried to pack in so much action, drama, retconning, pulled punches, and plot twists that it left us all feeling like we had eaten too much popcorn in zero gravity - queasy and a bit lost. It's like when you're telling a story, and suddenly you realize you've skipped a bunch of important parts, so you try to cram all the details in at the last minute.

The movie darted from one scene to another faster than the Millennium Falcon on a Kessel Run, trying to tie up loose ends and answer big questions, but it ended up making the storyline feel more like a tangled ball of Christmas lights than a smooth, epic saga.

Then there's the whole deal with trying to make everyone happy by fixing things from The Last Jedi that some of us fans didn't like. It's a bit like when you're playing with a group of friends, and you keep changing the rules of the game to make sure no one gets upset. In trying to patch up past controversies, The Rise of Skywalker flipped and flopped, zigged and zagged, leaving a trail of plot holes and head-scratchers in its wake. Characters made surprise comebacks (hello, Palpy, where did you come from?), and others had their backstories twisted or brushed aside.

It was as if the movie was trying to bake a cake using every flavor imaginable, hoping it would taste great. Instead, many of us felt we got a confusing mishmash that didn't quite satisfy our Star Wars sweet tooth.
