"My greatest weakness? Occasionally, I give a damn." -Jessica Jones
Jessica Jones was a fairly new character when her self-titled show debuted on Netflix. It may have seemed like a weird choice since she was fairly new. Despite that, she was more popular than long-term characters.
Jessica Jones kicked off the Marvel Max titles in 2001. Her take-no-prisoners attitude combined with her foul language and detective skills made Alias a success. Without her, there wouldn’t have been a Punisher Max. It was a logical choice to give Jessica her show.
You’re probably wondering why Jessica Jones is on this list if this was a Netflix show. There are a couple of reasons. First, fans wanted Jessica Jones on Disney Plus. Her show being canceled on Netflix meant it had to land somewhere. It's obvious that Disney’s streaming service was the right place. It's the home of most Marvel projects. Second, Jessica needed to be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Echo confirmed that the Netflix shows are canon. That means people will go back to Jessica Jones now more than they have. Everyone will need a refresher course. Because Krysten Ritter could make her return to Marvel. If and when that happens, it will reaffirm Jessica's importance to Marvel's street heroes.
