5 MCU characters who were worthy of Mjolnir but never got the chance to try

We all knew Captain America would be worthy of Mjolnir in the MCU, and yes, we all saw it move and he chose not to show off. There are others within the MCU who would be worthy, and we take a look at five who just never got the opportunity to try.

There are many versions of characters in the MCU. Throughout the comics, we’ve watched as different versions of characters have been worthy of Mjolnir, Thor’s hammer. What about the MCU that we’ve come to know and love?

Sure enough, Captain America proved that he was worthy when he wielded Mjolnir in Avengers: Infinity War. We all knew that was coming, though. We saw it move when he tried it in front of anyone. Part of what made him worthy was that he stopped moving it and pretended that he couldn’t lift it.

What it takes to be worthy of Mjolnir in the MCU

Odin made it clear that Thor was only worthy of his own hammer when he possessed the following:

Compassion
Restraint
Nobility
Wisdom
Humility

It's not easy to find someone with all five personality traits. Some of them can be learned, allowing for characters to grow. After all, Thor was unworthy for a long time and then worthy again because he gained various personality traits back.

That does mean that those who may have started off as questionable will now be worthy. They just haven’t had a chance to prove that in the MCU.

Natasha Romanoff (The Black Widow)

Natasha Romanoff was around the men as they attempted to lift Mjolnir. She decided that she wasn’t going to compete. To her, it was more of a testosterone-fueled moment, and she didn’t really think that she was worthy anyway. After all, look at some of the questionable and downright wrong things she had done in her past.

Yet, this arguably made her worthy. She was willing to sacrifice herself for the end of the world. She had the wisdom to know when something wasn’t worth fighting for and when it was. She had compassion for others despite her upbringing. This is a woman who I would have loved to see handle Mjolnir.

King T’Challa (Black Panther)

Black Panther was certainly underused in Avengers: Infinity War and beyond since the movie decided that he would be one to be wiped out in Thanos’ snap. He never got the chance to wield the hammer, and he certainly never showed any interest in it anyway. However, he was most definitely worthy of it.

He was a man of skill and care. T’Challa always put his people first, but he would also put the world second. There was no-one like him, and we mourn the loss of him along with the loss of Chadwick Boseman.

Storm

We cross to the X-Men universe, but hey, it’s still technically Marvel. Storm is arguably the most powerful X-Men after Charles Xavier. She also possesses the personality traits that would make her worthy of Mjolnir. In fact, in the comics, she was even able to wield Thor’s hammer.

I still don’t think X-Men did Storm justice compared to the comics. That being said, she was willing to put herself on the line for the greater good. She cared about others on an emotional level, and she has the courage to do what needs to be done, even if it means putting the masses before an individual.

Peter Parker (Spider-Man)

We’re talking Tom Holland’s Peter Parker here. At first, Peter was a young and naïve kid. He realized that he had powers, and he wanted to do something good with them. Just the fact that he wanted to do something good right away makes him on the worthier side. Of course, he was still just a kid, though, and part of him did want to use his abilities for selfish reasons as well.

In reality, Peter became worthy after the events of No Way Home. He realized at the very end that he needed to sacrifice himself, but not in a way that meant death. Instead, he had to wipe himself from the memories of his friends, and that’s an even harder sacrifice to make. The boy turned into a man who did what it took to save the world.

Shuri (The Princess of Wakanda)

When we first meet Shuri she is young, but she has a level head about her. She is smart, compassionate, and quick on her feet. Granted, there are still some life lessons to learn, but she has the basis to get to a point where she will be worthy of Mjolnir.

We just have to look at the way she put herself at risk in Avengers: Infinity War. When she was devastated over the loss of her brother, T’Challa, she pushed her own grief to one side. Her home needed to be protected, and she did what had to be done. She can be stubborn, but stubbornness doesn’t make someone unworthy of Mjolnir. Just ask Steve Rogers!
