The Avengers are preparing to reunite. That's great news for the residents in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as the fate of the multiverse will be at stake, and it's going to need Earth's Mightiest Heroes to save it. Yes, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars are on the horizon, and they are set to conclude the Multiverse Saga in what will no doubt be epic fashion.

Expectations are high for both movies, and they increased a great deal when it was announced that Robert Downey Jr. will return to the franchise in a brand new role. The legendary Academy Award winner will play Doctor Doom, the new villain of the Multiverse Saga and the apparent variant of Tony Stark. Sure, it's not Iron Man, but in a saga that will celebrate all of the Marvel movies from the MCU and beyond, it makes sense that the MCU's original star will play a leading role.

But he won't be the only Marvel legend appearing it seems, as two of the most iconic actors ever associated with Marvel roles are reportedly set to cross paths for the first time in the multiverse-shattering event.

Tobey Maguire and Hugh Jackman will reportedly appear in Avengers: Doomsday

According to a new report from Marvel scooper account Film News (formerly Marvel News), Hugh Jackman and Tobey Maguire will both return in Avengers: Doomsday, reprising their respective roles of Wolverine and Spider-Man. Though both currently live on worlds outside of the MCU's Earth-616, both have featured in pivotal MCU projects in recent years as part of the Multiverse Saga, making this potential team-up extremely likely.

This isn't the first time that a potential crossover between these two has been reported, and that right there is an example of how hotly-anticipated it is. Last year, renowned Marvel scooper MyTimeToShineHello revealed that the two will meet and fight alongside each other in Avengers: Secret Wars before adding earlier this year that the duo will be a part of multiple Avengers movies.

It would a moment in time if the pair crossed paths in either one of those movies, much less teamed up and fought alongside each other. Fans are so ready that they find it hard to believe it might actually happen and honestly that's understandable given how pivotal these two actors have been to the genre. Long before the MCU was a thing, they were arguably the most recognizable Marvel heroes, flying the flag for Marvel movies at a time when superheroes weren't dominating the box office as regularly as they do now. Between those two, and Wesley Snipes' Blade (who also just recently made his MCU debut), they were the definitive Marvel heroes for a whole generation.

Jackman portrayed the character of Logan for almost two decades in Fox's X-Men movie series, playing the role from 2000's X-Men all the way through to 2017's Logan, but he just recently made his debut in Deadpool and Wolverine.

Similarly, Maguire played Peter Parker in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy between 2002 and 2007, but he also arrived in the MCU in 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, crossing paths with both Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Men.

The thought of seeing these two era-defining actors come together to bring their iconic superheroes to the MCU in a battle that will no doubt feature a ton more familiar faces, well it's almost too good to be true. The Multiverse Saga has engineered some goosebump-inducing moments; from Wolverine putting on his cowl for the first time to the three Spider-Men working together to stop their own villains, it's just been one gift after another with this saga. But Jackman's Wolverine and Maguire's Spider-Man finally sharing the screen - after never having the chance to do it in the 2000s - it might just be the best of them all if Marvel could make it happen.

I constantly like to say that anything can happen in the Multiverse Saga, but this one would be the biggest indicator of that. In another lifetime, these two could have been part of a shared universe of Marvel superheroes in the 2000s if the stars had aligned, so it would be pretty epic if Marvel Studios managed to make it happen all these years later. I just got goosebumps thinking about it.
