Blood Hunt changed all of Marvel Comics (no, seriously)

“This event will change the world” is a cliche comic book phrase. Sometimes minor things are altered and inconvenience some heroes, but rarely the entire world. Recently, this writer wrote that Blood Hunt was good but needed a big payoff. He also said that he trusts Jed MacKay to do something amazing. Both things were correct.

Blood Hunt left the Marvel Comics universe with two major changes. It’s difficult to decide which is the right one to start with. They both shape the Marvel Comics universe. So let's go with the one everyone cares about.

Doom vows to save the world

When Stephen Strange gave Dr. Doom the title of Sorcerer Supreme and everything that came with it, Doom promised to return it once he saved the world. Doom did stop the Darkforce from blocking the sun, but he wasn’t done saving the world. That meant Dr. Doom could continue being Sorcerer Supreme.

“To surrender the office of Sorcerer Supreme back to once I saved the world. And I have only just begun, Stephen. Doom does nothing halfway.” -Victor von Doom

Over the weekend, Marvel Comics announced One World Under Doom. The conclusion of Blood Hunt is likely only part of his grand plan. The big question is if Doom planned or did he seize the opportunity. Strange accused Doom of planning this from the beginning. No one would put it past him, but he’s also capable of improvising. Whether Doom planned this or not, he played this beautifully.

After returning the sun’s rays to Earth, Doom did more than keep the title of Sorcerer Supreme. He broadcasted to the world that he saved everyone. This will leave people everywhere to praise Dr. Doom despite his past. Maybe he is the right person to protect Earth. He didn’t do a bad job during 2015’s Secret Wars.

Vampires in the day

Something possibly bigger than that is vampires not being hurt by the sun’s rays. Dracula says, “When you save the world, the world then owes you a debt.” That could mean that the attack from vampires hasn’t ended. Or maybe they won’t need to feed until it’s night.

Regardless of what happens, three things are certain. Humanity can’t deny the existence of vampires. They just spent days being chased and killed by them. This will bring more vampires out of hiding since they no longer have to stay hidden. Some want to exist while others love the hunt.

Second, Miles Morales is still a vampire. It's not clear if he'll still need blood to survive or how this will affect his life. He's more powerful than ever, but he'll probably hate what he's become. And let's not forget about what just happened during Blood Hunt. We don't know how his parents and friends will react to his new appearance. Some of them may be scared of him.

Lastly, things for the former creatures of the night have gotten better while everyone else’s lives have gotten worse. We'll have to wait and see how that works out for them and Bam Smack Pow will be there to cover it.
