The Mandalorian star confirms he won't return for The Mandalorian and Grogu movie

There are a lot of questions still surrounding Disney’s upcoming The Mandalorian spinoff movie, The Mandalorian & Grogu, but it seems one question has finally been answered regarding whether a certain character will be appearing in the movie.
During the “From Clone Troopers to Bounty Hunters” panel at August’s Fan Expo Chicago, actor Temuera Morrison seemed to confirm that we won’t be seeing Boba Fett back in action for the film and the reason is quite simple it seems: the failed show seems to have been quite detrimental to character’s future.
“I'm still waiting for a phone call to be quite honest. I think we're just put on the shelf for a little bit. Maybe we come off the shelf later,” Morrison revealed when asked about the film via Screenrant.
Boba Fett isn’t needed for The Mandalorian movie
I’ll be the first to admit that it’s a shame The Book of Boba Fett harmed the character of Boba Fett in the way the show seems to have done based on Temuera Morrison’s comments about the character being put on the shelf. However, we can all agree that The Mandalorian movie in development doesn’t really need Boba Fett.
Sure it could be fun to see Boba pop up in the film, but his journey within The Mandalorian was tied up nicely and he’s not a character that is needed to further the plot of the franchise within the upcoming film. We still don’t quite know where the movie will take us, but we expect that it will keep the major focus on the title characters and their popular dynamic as it should. We also would expect that the film will feature some of the bigger players in The Mandalorian’s recent seasons such as Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan, who was a marquee player in season 3.
It would also make sense for Lucasfilm to try to tie in other key figures in its broader shared universe who resonated more with audiences such as Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka. Ahsoka’s appearances in The Mandalorian were incredibly well received and her standalone series was a far bigger success than The Book of Boba Fett, so it would make far more sense for her character to be included in the film than Boba Fett.
Honestly, we’re just really curious to see what direction the film goes in and what story the creative team is planning on telling within the movie that they felt wouldn’t work as a storyline for season 4. Many worry that the film is just a cash grab, which could be true, but we’re excited to see Mando and Grogu on the big screen and are eager to see how Lucasfilm brings the pair to the big screen.
