"Cancelled" Marvel character will return to the MCU after all, reports say

In spite of multiple cancellation reports, it sounds like one of Marvel's Disney Plus stars might make a triumphant comeback to the MCU albeit in a different project.

The Multiverse Saga has never been more exciting. Yes, it's true; the Marvel Cinematic Universe did experience a bit of a rough patch in recent years that saw fan interest wane a little, but after both San Diego Comic-Con and the monumental success of Deadpool and Wolverine, things have never been more intriguing for the MCU's current chapter.

The reveal that Robert Downey Jr. would return to the franchise but as its new villain, Doctor Doom, has reinvigorated fan interest. It's a unique spin on things for sure, but interest in Avengers 5, now titled Avengers: Doomsday, has now skyrocketed. Mission accomplished, Marvel.

Now, a new report has suggested that we could see some returnees from across the MCU in the line-up of Avengers set to battle Doctor Doom, including one who had a seemingly uncertain fate in the franchise.

She-Hulk rumored to appear in Avengers: Doomsday

According to a new report from veteran Marvel scooper MyTimeToShineHello, preparation for Avengers: Doomsday began last month and the movie will feature Spider-Man, Sam Wilson's Captain America, Moon Knight, and She-Hulk. That certainly doesn't mean they will be the only heroes on the team (we know that the Fantastic Four cast will reprise their roles and Benedict Cumberbatch confirmed that he would be back for the movie, too) but it is an interesting line-up of heroes who have played significant parts in the Multiverse Saga thus far.

One of the most interesting things about this particular rumor is the inclusion of She-Hulk, as it may have just confirmed that we haven't seen the last of the character. Portrayed by Tatiana Maslany, Jennifer Walters made her MCU debut in Disney Plus series She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, which received praise for its witty writing and allowing the MCU to try something different (it was a legal comedy). However, the character has yet to return and a number of rumors have suggested that the show won't be back for a second season.

Earlier this year, Maslany responded to a question about the show's fate, saying that she doesn't think it will return as they blew their budget and Disney was like "no thanks". Since then, there have been a number of rumors about how Marvel is considering turning multiple of its original miniseries into multi-season shows; She-Hulk, which was actually designed to run for more seasons like a network TV sitcom, has not been among those rumored to return. And with the cancellation rumors continuing, it sounded like Marvel was ready to move on from the series.

Given Marvel Studios' recent shift in its release strategy, which has it adopting a less-is-more, less- risk-taking approach, She-Hulk sadly seemed like an obvious choice to cancel due to its hefty budget. But one thing that can afford the Jade Giantess is a larger-than-life Avengers movie, and it sounds like that's when she could make her return to our screens.

Even though She-Hulk: Attorney At Law was more than worthy of a second season, fans of the Jennifer Walters character will no doubt be thrilled at the possibility of her returning to the MCU in any capacity. She was such a fun, engaging new addition to the well-established world of the franchise and it would be really interesting to see how Tatiana Maslany's awesome performance would pair with a number of the MCU heroes. Call us crazy, but we see her and Spider-Man getting along really well. And could you imagine if we had a fourth-wall break scene between her and Deadpool? Make it happen, Marvel!

Here's hoping that She-Hulk will return to screens some day, but for now, we're just happy to hear that Marvel hasn't completely moved on from the character. Granted, a rumor is a rumor until otherwise confirmed by Marvel Studios or the actors taking part, but we'll admit that the possibility of seeing Jen again is a very exciting one indeed.
