5 Green Lanterns perfect for DC's upcoming Lanterns series
DC Studios and Warner Bros. Discovery have announced a Green Lantern series as part of the DC Universe. There was initially a Green Lantern series planned for the previous DC cinematic universe, but it never came to be. But now, Lanterns is set to be a part of the new franchise and the studio is currently in the process of casting.
While we know little about it as of yet, there are so many possibilities. Green Lantern has boundless potential, given its status as DC's greatest space opera. Whether it be on Earth or throughout the multiverse, there is no limit to the Green Lantern Corps.
Guy Gardner
Guy Gardner is a fan favorite Justice Leaguer and Green Lantern. A hot headed tough guy, Guy is always the first into a fight, and is a true hero, despite outwards appearances. Guy Gardner is one of DC's funniest characters, he always brings humor to his each and every appearance.
We know that Guy Gardner is already a part of the DC Universe, as Nathan Fillion is set to play the character in James Gunn's Superman movie. Could he make a cameo appearance, or even play a greater role, in Lanterns? Surely there won't be a show about the Green Lantern Corps without at least some kind of reference to him?
Kilowog
Kilowog is one of the most iconic alien Lanterns. A big pink brute, Kilowog is a trainer for new Green Lanterns, and despite his toughness, he is as heroic as anyone. Kilowog is a pillar of the Green Lantern Corps, one who leads the way and is respected by all. The Corps would feel empty without him.
With the plot expected to explore John Stewart as the young rookie Green Lantern in Lanterns, it would make sense to have Kilowog play a mentor-like role in the series.
John Stewart
Well-known for his role in the iconic animated series Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, John Stewart is another fan-favorite. Stewart is another leader figure for the Corps, as well as the Justice League. His demeanor and costume design make him recognizable amongst the Corps, and make him a great candidate for a role on any Green Lantern project.
The show is expected to feature John Stewart as the rookie Lantern who may or may not take guidance from a more experience, equally-iconic Lantern, so that's definitely good news. Let's just hope that Stewart plays a major role in the show - and the DC Universe, going forward.
Abin Sur
Before Hal Jordan became Green Lantern, Abin Sur was the Lantern of space sector 2814. Abin was regarded as a great Lantern, one who would be hard to follow. Despite his short time in the DC Universe, he was pivotal for it.
Abin Sur is important for so many reasons, as many of Green Lantern's foes had gone through him. He exists not only as an example of a great Lantern within the DC Universe, but to the fans as well. It's time that more people knew his name, and an appearance in the upcoming HBO series would allow that to happen.
Hal Jordan
Hal Jordan is without a doubt, The Green Lantern. Despite not being the first (Alan Scott holds that honor), he is the face of Green Lantern. Everything about him is great, from his stories, his foes, his design, and his personality, Hal Jordan is one of the best superheroes of all time, and certainly an irreplaceable part of the Green Lantern mythos.
DC Studios reportedly offered Josh Brolin and Matthew McConaughey the role so it's clear that the character is set to be one of the primary Lanterns on the show. It also sounds like he will be the veteran Lantern (while Stewart will be the rookie), so it's going to be an interesting adaptation of the character. We can't wait to see what that looks like!
Each Green Lantern brings something new to the table. With a series of unlimited potential, there seems to be an unlimited number of Lanterns who could make their mark on fans once again.
