DC's new Batman might be much older than we expected (like way older)

We originally thought Batman would be just a little older than Superman, but it seems he might be much older than anticipated.

When it was announced that James Gunn and Peter Safran would be bringing in a new Batman as part of the connected DC Universe being established, it was first assumed that this new version of The Dark Knight would be relatively close in age to the Man of Steel.

Many early reports suggested that Batman would be just a few years older than Superman, so when David Corenswet was cast in the role of Clark Kent the assumption was that our new Batman would be someone in his late 30s to early 40s. However, it seems DC is actually looking for a Dark Knight who is going to be notably older than their new Superman -- at least according to one actor who originally auditioned for the part when it came time to cast Matt Reeves' Batman.

DC apparently is looking for an older Batman

In a new interview. ComicBook.com caught up with actor Milo Ventimiglia who nearly once suited up as Bruce Wayne in The Batman before the role went to Robert Pattinson. During the interview, the outlet inquired as to whether Ventimiglia might ever be interested in going out for the role again which is when Ventimiglia revealed he's not going out for Batman: The Brave and the Bold because he's too young for what DC is looking for.

"No, because at this point, I'm probably too young," Ventimiglia revealed when asked if he was planning on auditioning for The Brave and the Bold. "That's how it goes, man. When they say they want young Batman, they want some young. When they say they want old Batman, they want someone older."

Ventimiglia's comments about being too young to play Batman in the new DCU are interesting as if anything he should be considered a little too old for the character given the initial rumors about Batman's age. We had been assuming that Batman would be just a few years older than Superman, who is set to be played by 30-year-old David Corenswet. This should have meant that Ventimiglia was too old for the role given he's 16 years Corenswet's senior.

Instead, it seems Ventimiglia is considered too young to play Batman which suggests we could be looking at a new Batman that is going to be much older than the Man of Steel. Ventimiglia is 46 so if he's too young for what DC is looking for that seems to hint that the new Dark Knight is going to be a much more seasoned version of the character.

Going off of Ventimiglia's comments, we have a feeling DC might be looking for an actor in their 50s or older which is quite interesting as that would make Batman at least 20 years older than Superman in the DCU. This would be an interesting juxtaposition given the original reports hinted that the characters would be closer in age and it also seems to suggest the acting pool for casting the role is going to include names many might not have previously considered.
