There are still a lot of mysteries about Deadpool and Wolverine. The movie is one that could relaunch the Marvel Cinematic Universe by diving further into the franchise's Multiverse Saga than ever before, and one of the main reasons for that is the return of Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. But how does Logan find his way to the MCU? Heck, how does Deadpool find his way to the MCU? Is this the gateway to the X-Men's arrival too?

One of the film's other main questions revolve around its primary villain. Who is it that will bring the unlikely frenemies together? There have been a lot of theories, because MCU fans love to theorize and speculate about the franchise.

However, a new report suggests that there could be more to one of these theories, as an unexpected villain could be hiding in plain sight.

The TVA might be the secret villains of Deadpool and Wolverine

The first trailer for Deadpool and Wolverine revealed that the film will feature the Time Variance Authority, who recruit Wade Wilson in a bid to save the multiverse. Upon viewing footage of the other heroes and villains of the MCU, he agrees to help. It's this decision that presumably leads to him joining forces with Wolverine.

According to Marvel insider HolyField News, the TVA is actually the film's second villain and they are planning on manipulating Deadpool until he eventually catches on to what they are up to. That would undoubtedly be a huge twist if true, likely changing the course of the movie when Wade uncovers the truth.

While Marvel Studios has not confirmed this as of yet, there is evidence to support this theory: Particularly the fact that Deadpool is seen fighting the Minutemen in that same trailer after he has been recruited by them. Could he have figured out what they are really up to at this point?

As for the film's main villain, it's widely believed that Cassandra Nova will fill that role, with Emma Corrin playing the character. A mutant with psychic powers, the villainess is Charles Xavier's twin sister in the comics, so it's going to be interesting to see if that comes up and if it will have any impact on Wolverine's role in the movie. The question is: Will Nova have ties to the TVA?

Deadpool 3's TVA could be different from Loki's

While the footage of Deadpool and the Minutemen battling was indeed in the trailer, that thing that makes the TVA potentially being one of the film's villains shocking is the fact that Loki was all about the God of Mischief and Mobius' attempts to fix the organization, rooting out the corruption and making it protect branched timelines instead of eradicating them. The sheer notion of the TVA being villainous after this would completely undo the poignance of Loki's storytelling and the events of the season 2 finale.

With that in mind, it's quite possible that this is a different version of the TVA we're dealing with. The time travel and multiverse lore in the MCU is still pretty complicated (and vague at the same time) but an alternate universe version of the TVA acting shady and odd wouldn't be too hard to believe, especially if it's the Time Variance Authority of the Fox Universe. After all, when Deadpool encounters the Minutemen and Alioth in the trailer, he's surrounded by elements from the Fox universe (including the 20th Century Fox logo, Wolverine, and Pyro from the Fox X-Men movies).

This would also explain why he's recruited by different TVA Agents, particularly Paradox - who is an alternate version of Mobius M. Mobius in the comics. And as we know, the MCU's Mobius would never engage in such nefarious deeds for the TVA, which is likely why he isn't involved in this movie.

While all rumors need to be taken with a grain of salt until confirmed by Marvel, this one carries some weight because of the TVA's history and the teases of a showdown between them and Deadpool from the first trailer. We'll have to wait and see if this report comes to fruition, but the possibility of the TVA having a greater involvement in the movie is very intriguing indeed.
